ios 7.0.4 Update battery issue again!

I just did the update and after I unplugged from charging overnight my battery drained over 50% in a 1/2 hour on standby!!!! Why does this garbage continue to happen? Anyone else having this issue. FYI, before update I had everything turned off to save battery life so no stranger to the ios7 battery issue but thought it was not going to happen with an update.

Well I have the same issue!

I have spoken to Apple who say there is in fact a problem with the update 7.0.4

My battery drains at about 18% per hour with no use, I do know however what is causing this though!

I live in area with no network coverage at all so my phone provider has given me a Home Signal Box (femtocell)

Which routes all our calls down our high speed internet connection. With our phones connected to this box the box shows a constant green light, when one of the phones is in use the green light flashes.

Since I updated to 7.0.4 when my phone is connected to the box the green light flashes continuosly untill the battery on the phone goes flat. Only I have done the update & only my phone does this.

If I use airplane mode & turn on wifi this stops my phone battery draining & it has been at 100% for the past 14 hours despite me using e-mail & Viber

Apple are replacing my I Phone 5 tomorrow as my warranty expires in two days, all this and there is nothing wrong with the phone! IT IS THE UPDATE

I am guessing that the Facetime fix apparently in this update may be the culprit.

Of course without the benifit of my home signal box I would have never realised that the phone was constantly hammering the cellular network as you can't tell when connect to a conventional phone providers mast.

So Apple engineers if you look at these comments "Have a look at this" this is the problem

I have been a Apple fan for many years but today as my i phone will not last my working day I have resorted to my old Android HTC & you know what it's great

You all have a good day now

My Usage/Standby is nowhere near the same.

I've done what Cinoclav's done in regard to the restore. Restored as new, didn't reinstall any apps or reconnect email accounts, no contacts, no music, no nothing that isn't standard. The battery drain persists. At least 25% an hour if the phone's in use. (Note: can't say how it goes while playing music now since I don't have any on the phone. That hadn't been draining the battery at nearly the same rate as other things, except after first updating.)

25% really is minimum. I didn't realize that before, or maybe it actually was staying fairly steady before, but now, it can jump all over the place. Example: as a test, I played a Youtube video for 1 hour over wifi (via Safari, not app). The battery drained 25%. I received 5 picture texts, replied to each with text only. The battery drained 17%. It was more or less an immediate back-and-forth, so 17% in under five minutes.

No suggested fixes have fixed it, not even the one suggested by the Genius Bar. My phone's out of warranty, so they won't give me a new one (unless I pony up the $$$, of course). I don't want to try any more restores/resets because I'm afraid of bricking the phone altogether. I've had a lot of glitches and freezes and so on during all this, including losing the ability to make/receive calls. The restore fixed that, but who knows if it would fix it again or what else might go wrong. (Even though my cell network is crap, this time it wasn't a network issue. My family members on the same plan were sitting right there with me using their phones at the same time mine was nonfunctional.)

I've already picked out my new Android phone. Just today, asked my family to get it for me for Christmas. Of course there's a chance I won't like it, but at least I'll be not liking it for 1/3 the price. And since I'm going unlocked phone/no contract from here on out, I won't be stuck with this "can't get a new phone because it'll extend the contract" issue, so I could just sell it and get something else.

Thanks for the updates whiller123. I took mine off the charger at 5:30 am (EST) with 100% and have barely used it. It's now at 36%, less than 4 hours later. And this is actually better than what it had been the last few days since doing the 7.0.4 update. But still draining at 17% an hour is ridiculous. Oddly enough, I'm not having the Usage/Standby issue as other have. Showing 38 minutes Usage and 3 Hours 43 Minutes Standby. However that does signify an issue as there's no way I've used my phone for 38 minutes at this point. Maybe 10 max.

I have yet another appointment at the Sub-Genius Bar this evening with plans to talk to a manager. I can't continue like this, my phone isn't a convenience, it's a necessity.

(Edit: In the time it took me to write this post, it dropped to 34%.)

woodsidegirl - Both trips there this weekend I had mentioned there were plenty of complaints online about this update and the drainage issue. Saturday I was given the annoying response of, "There are millions of iPhones out there so a few complaints online doesn't make it a huge problem." I was rather close to showing him exactly what he could do with my phone at that moment...

Yesterday I at least had someone who basically admitted 'unofficially' that he's seen this a lot over the different variations of iOS. But his hands were tied as the diagnostics didn't show any hardware issues. Hence why I plan to speak to a manager today and see about replacing my phone with one that still has 7.0.3 on it. My appointment is for 6pm EST this evening. I'll keep you all informed!

P.S. - Phone is back on the charger. It was down 95% in 5 hours with about 15 minutes of actual usage, almost all via wifi here at work...

Well, back from the Apple store yet again. Had a super nice person help me this time. She ran through the prerequisite questions and diagnostics, then wasted no time agreeing it was worth trying a new phone. Interestingly enough she did mention the thought that the 7.0.4 update somehow triggered an actual issue with the logic board. Probably not the cause but she was a lot more understanding than anyone else has been so far.

I requested a phone with 7.0.3 but my only options were going back to 6 or a new one with 7.0.4 so I stuck with 7. Figured I'm going to charge it completely and see what happens before doing anything else with it besides the usual battery saving tricks. If the battery seems okay with this one I'll restore from backup and see if that changes anything. If that causes any issues than I'll have to look at the apps as a possible problem. I don't expect them to be as I went all day today watching it drain just as quickly without having restored my apps.

Good news is that this phone seems to be charging at a normal rate. The phone with the drainage was taking forever to charge as it was draining almost as quickly. Started charging at 53% and it's up to 95% in about 50 minutes which is similar to my old times. Keeping my fingers crossed...

As always, I'll let you all know what happens!

Btw, woodsidegirl - Did you get yours to stop the reboot loop?

Nov 25, 2013 7:14 PM in response to woodsidegirl

woodsidegirl - I ran across this post about the reboot loop: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5324289?answerId=23403626022#23403626022

So the new phone has been sitting here charged and unplugged for over 2 hours. I've been on it for two quick calls and it's still at 99% full. Looks like it should be okay from here on out but I'm going to leave it basically blank until tomorrow after work. Assuming all is fine I'll restore my backup and pray it continues working properly.

If all is well it seems the lesson here for anyone still having the problem is that the only proper fix is a new phone. I hope the majority are still under warranty.

Nov 26, 2013 6:03 AM in response to woodsidegirl

So I left the new phone off the charger all night, going to sleep with about 95% battery. Used it a little bit this morning and now, almost 12 hours after taking it off the charger I'm still at 82%. I'll restore everything this evening and see what happens but for now it appears the final answer was having to replace the phone itself. Seems a bit mind boggling that a software update could trigger a hardware issue of some sort so I still believe it was an iOS background problem in the other phone.

I'll post a final update once I restore my backup. In the meantime, I hope everyone else find some resolution quickly!

Hello everyone,

I 100% agree with anyone saying that if youre paying 600$ ( actually more in Poland ) for IP5 you should expect everything to be working normally. Of course all advices regarding limiting your gps usage, turning off services etc are usefull but should be treated as a helpful hint to save energy but only in case of normally working phones. I have just tested the deleting email account solution and it worked for me - I lost one percent of battery in 20 mins using my phone from time to time. Also the times of usage and standby begun to differ significantly. So if anyone has small difference between above mentioned periods I recommend to try the above. In my opinion there myst be a process connected to pushing for new email etc. and it must be running contantly in the background.
