OSX Mavericks not recognising Java Applet Plug-in

Hello,

Since upgrading to OSX Mavericks, I am not able to enable the Java Plug-in, eventhough I have the latest Java installed, and reinstalled it again from Oracle website.

I went to Security, to "Enable Java content in the browser", but once I tick the box, then click "Apply" and type my password, the box unticks automatically.

Eventhough, I the plugin is located in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

I tried to completely remove Java following the steps provided by Oracle: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml

Also, I removed the content from /Users/User/Library/Application Support/ , reinstalled Java for OS X 2013 - 005 from Apple ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 ) , then reinstalled Java, but this didn't help.

I am not facing this problem on my other Mac, my other Mac installed an update for Java from Apple when upgraded to Mavericks, but this Mac didn't.

Anyone can help?

Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9), (9,2) 2.9GHz i7, 8GB, 480GB SSD

I cannot see java 6 anywhere on my computer except in "Library, Plugins" and ther is a folder called Java in Library that has a bunch of other sub folders. Today, I tried to run my scrapbooking software and a pop up box opened saying that i needed to downloan Java version 6 runtime (or something like that). I downloaded it and the software runs perfectly. I did deny java ful access to it which said it might cause me to lose some features.

I wanted to go into safari preferences so that I could disable the java unless I needed it, but it is not listed in any of my plugins, nor is it listed under the Apple, System Preferences (at the bottom next to Flash Player).

But like I said, it is in Library/Plugins. With an arrow next to it. When I go to Get Info- under name is does not say plugin, it says alias.

What does this mean?

I am experiencing this same problem. Have been unable to get help here or from Oracle.

Enable Java via the dialogue boxes. I.e. when the error bar says Java blocked for this website, click the arrow and "Trust" the website to use the Java plug-in. When you finally see the upload window, it takes a few seconds, hover your cursor at the top of the dialogue box and press the command and shift keys at the same time. You will see a jumploader applet tool bar appear immediately over the top of the dialogue box. Make sure this is the open window. Drag the dialogue box out of the frame a little bit and it will appear as a new window of the same size. You should be able to upload photos, etc into this dialogue box where, for me, it says Drop Files Here. You might have to play around with this a little bit. This is the only way I know to have the Java Jumploader Applet actually work.

I need jre for an online course. I am using OS X 10.9 and Safari 7.0.1. I planned to enable when needed and disable when not needed. However, I cannot activate after installing it.

The plugin shows up in /library/internet plugins and /library/preference panes. The Java console shows up in system preferences. When I attempt to "enable Java content in the browser" through the concsole the checkbox automatically unticks, as noted above. When I attempt to active Java in the browser through Safari preferences > internet plugins > allow plugins > manage website settings the Java plugin does not show up in the list of installed plugins.

I have tried everything suggested that seems halfway relevant in the Java help ages. I have Googled for help elsewhere. I see that others have had this problem, e.g., participants in this thread. I do not see any solutions. I need help.

Well... I don't have Java show up in either /library/internet plugins and /library/preference panes. I'm finding I have Java version 14.9.0 appear in Safari>preferences>security.

The whole thing drove me nuts for a few hours until I downloaded Java in apparently the right order of updates, if that makes sense. You might want to try downloading Java via Firefox.

In Firefox when first opening to upload photos I get "Activate Java 2 for NPAPI Browsers."

This does activate. Then go to the procedure I described in the message just above yours.

In Spotlight I see this:

Latest Java is version 7.45

You can check your version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre

I don't remember how I got it to work, but I worked through the sequence above. Persevere and you'll have it. I hope this helps.

Have you followed this discussion started by Peter Rock?

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5491042

When Peter, in the 3rd post, says:

"--/library/ move the Oracle folder to the trash"

I believe he is referring to these two folders:

/Library/Application Support/Oracle

~/Library/Application Support/Oracle

This approach has solved the problem you describe for me and others.

Thanks a ton! That worked.

Interestingly, Apple Care support informs me that emptying the cache through the Java console should have taken care of this, but that was one of the things I tried and it didn't work for me.

I wonder how this solution was found. My guess is somebody knew that that folder existed and that it was the Java cache folder and decided to try emptying it manually.

Anyway, thanks for responding, and for giving me the solution to my problem.

Sincerely,

I am still having issues. I tried doing what Peter posted above and went to my library and got ride of what he suggested but interestingly enough I could only find the oracle folder to throw in the trash and I can't even get a Java Control Panel to appear like above. It is like Java is nowhere on my computer. I downloaded Java and I still get the missing plug in. But yet, after installing Java, it says it installed correctly but when I go to test it, the missing plug in comes up. I am at a loss of what to do, this has been an issue for months. I keep thinking I should call Apple but it doesn't sound like they are much help.

Check what you are installing as there appears to be several versions perhaps the control panel isn't included in all the releases?

Have you enabled the option to 'use all other plugins' in Safari's prefs? Can you 'Manage website settings' in the same section of the Safari prefs?

AMDeeb says only the JRE is needed (back one page)

Jan 19, 2014 4:12 PM in response to Drew Reece

Hi! Yes, I can "Manage website Settings" in the same section. How do I use all other plugins? Also, when I click on the link that you provided from AMDeeb, it takes me to an Oracle Error page. Do you have the download link? Maybe I am installing the incorrect version which is why I don't get the Java Control Panel? Thanks so much!

Jan 19, 2014 5:32 PM in response to kellyfromfayetteville

The checkbox enables 'All plugins' right next to the Manage button 🙂

See if either of these look correct…

http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Hopefully they will survive the constant updates, I'm not able to test (on an earlier OS at the moment) so see if anyone has any better ideas.

Jan 20, 2014 5:10 PM in response to Drew Reece

Thank you Drew for your response. I have All Plugins checked (I have always had it checked, I am a little slow technically so bear with me. 🙂 ) .

I figured out which one to download as I recognized it from a couple mos ago when I initially posted saying I couldn't get Java to load and I still can't get it to work. I still get the error message about missing the plug ins and I can't find Java anywhere on my computer except for the App Icon on my desktop. I went back into Library and Appl Support and searched for an Oracle folder and it doesn't exist (I threw it in my trash prior to downloading the new Java). I am at a loss. I have it on my To Do list to call Apple but hesitant based on the all of the posts here about Apple not being much help. To be honest when I need to access a site that needs Java, I jump on my husband's computer that he uses for work which is an HP. Kinda a pain and annoying that I can't use my own computer. Very frustrating to say the least.

Jan 20, 2014 5:32 PM in response to kellyfromfayetteville

Java is a framework & a browser plugin so it's usually difficult to find since it's not like other apps in the applications folder. I'm unclear on how much this 'Java Runtime Environment' (JRE) installs too.

I don't know how much Apple will be able to help, but it's worth a try. It's what the Apple store is for so make a genuis appointment if you have one near you.
