Anyone know how to get the cursor to default to the address bar when you open a new tab in Safari 7.0?

This helped me: UNcheck the box in Settings -> Search -> Smart Search Field -> Include Safari Suggestions.

I've been trying to set 'Empty pages' and other methods but nothing helped me excepting this.

This solution worked like a charm for me:

Quit Safari, open terminal and write:

defaults write com.apple.Safari UniversalSearchFeatureNotificationHasBeenDisplayed YES

If you can, could you please explain what this does, and can it only be done through the terminal?

I upgraded OSX last week and the behavior changed.😟 For me, just unchecked search engine suggestion in search tab works well. Thank you guys.🙂

Hey! I just fixed the issue on my Mac! just change the setting in the safari preferences under general that says: new windows open with: and change it to 'Empty Page'
