NOPE! Other ideas? I posted this elsewhere in the forum because I could not find this discussion:
i have been reading the forum regarding getting an earlier version of iBooks on an iPad (iOS 5.1.1.) 1. None of the suggestions work for me. It seems that Apple is determined that all iPads prior to the newest, most expensive one, are rendered obsolete and are to be consigned to the nearest electronic junk yard in order to sell more high-end iPads.
Somewhere in this forum (which I could access before I signed up, but can no longer find--BUT HERE YOU ARE), someone advised downloading the iBook app from iTunes, then going to the iPad and syncing it through "Purchases" and that Apple would MAGICALLY tell me I needed an earlier version and generously provide it.
Unfortunately, since my purchases are recent ibooks which apparently require the latest version, I have NO purchases that show up on the iPad. None are listed. I could spend $500 on books with no hope that they would be included in the "Purchases" tab on the iPad, so I will not purchase additional titles. The advice went something like this: You should be able to download a compatible version. If the iBooks app isn't already in your purchase history thet download the current version on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in it. Then on your iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if you can download an older compatible version of it. At this very moment, the Itunes store is downloading the iBooks app and has been doing so for about the last 40 minutes. I suspect I'll be told it cannot be completed when it arrives at the end of the process.
So, I guess if I can't find someone with an earlier Mac computer that has iBooks in an earlier version that I can pirate from them, there is no hope. Is that right? Apple has no investment in customers who have older versions (Disclaimer: I purchased this iPad, used, because I create eBooks for clients and I'd like to be able to include azk books for iPads as well and preview them on a real device. I'm not hopeful.)
(the iBooks app is still downloading more than 90 minutes later . . .) Should I expect it to be installed sometime before tomorrow morning, and then should I expect it to offer an earlier version tomorrow if I click on it?)
