Macbook died and now is slow.

I was working on a paper and did not notice my battery was low. Thinking I could get done before my computer died, I wound up draining the battery and my MacBook shut off. Upon starting it back up it has been super slow with loading apps and etc.So I tried to repair the disk and its permissions. When I did that, it said nothing was wrong. So I researched what else to do, thats where I leanered about resetting the SMC but when I did that, nothing happened. My MacBook is still slow. HELP!
