Basically, I have bought the Shure SM58 microphone to record audio voice on my MacBook Pro Retina, but it doesn't seem to work.. The specifications and the seller clearly told me that the audio jack included output and input, is there anything I am doing wrong or I should know of? Please help!

The SM58 uses a 3 pin xlr connector, how are you connecting to a Mac?
Where do you connect this? with some adaptor I assume (as there is no balanced microphone socket on any Mac)
Basically, my XLR cable has on the other end (opposite to the end on the picture) a audio jack output, which I plug into my Mac
You can not connect a balanced (3 pole) microphone to an unbalanced (2 pole) input. Get an external USB interface and make sure that it supports balanced inputs (many do not, especially the cheap ones)
