How can I remove the 90 day wait until I can use a new Apple ID on iTunes?

I recently bought a like new MacBook Pro Retina that only had 16 battery cycles. It was sold to the person I bought it from in March 2013. he sent me the original receipt from the Apple store also.I contacted Apple and they helped me set up a new Apple Admin. account under my name and password. I purchased the extended Applecare under my name for this computer. All is ok there. It is running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 OS and it allowed me to do iPhoto update today.

I authorized the computer under iTunes and next to it said 83 days before I could use my Apple ID? I unauthorized the computers on my iTunes account for the three under them to clear them off. I reauthorized the MacBook Pro and it seems ok on the MacBook Pro. I went on my Windows laptop and the MacBook Pro was there with the 83 days wait again. So I took it off. Do I have to wait 83 days to use my Apple ID on this computer? I backed up my two iPads on iTunes today and that was fine as it showed them under devices. I am confused.

Any help?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I ended up calling Apple and I had the previous owners apple email address and they deactivated the Apple ID from the computer. No more days counting down showing how long before the previous owners Apple ID went off it. Thank you for answer of "one time reprieve".

It makes me feel better that his Apple ID is no longer associated with this machine. I emailed him and told him if he ever resells another MacBook Pro to set back to factory settings so someone else didn't have this problem.

Do you think I am clear under my Apple account now that his is no longer associated to update to Maverick with no problem? If I ever have to go back to reset to factory would there be any problems? Would it reset to Mountain Lion ? It had one Mountain Lion update to 10.5.8 only. I did see Microsoft Office 2008 on it. I believe that would be lost as it must have been the previous owners as I didn't buy it.

Thanks.

How is this solved. Yes we understand the mechanism behind the issue but how is this acceptable behavior from Apple? If two people share an iPad, they can't efficiently share that device using their two accounts. This probably isn't a huge deal on iPhones, but iPads are commonly shared between spouses/partners etc and not being able to have both users' accounts on them is a huge unnecessary fail on Apple's part. It's the classic myopia that always surrounds DRM - they're severely inconveniencing people pay to who use their ecosystem, while those who use pirated data or files downloaded from other devices are not affected.

This issue is clearly not solved. The 90 day iTunes device association rule remains. Apple are not about to remove it for the reasons already stated unless they can come up with a better alternative. Our only weapon is knowledge, once we know about it we can allow for it, unfortunatly we often find out stuff by trial and error, as in my case.

iPads and iPhone aside it is the issue of the home computer that really bugs me. Half of the young families I know have a shared desktop computer, Apple would obviously like us to all have one of our own, rediculous.

This issue is clearly solved (though not to your liking).

You cannot remove the 90 day period to redownload iTunes purchases from the iTunes store.

Note this 90 day limit does not apply to new iTunes purchases.

and you can sync purchases from multiple iTunes account using iTunes on your computer.

Chris, I think you are missing the point. As stated above;

"iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID

When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID.

Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it. Each computer must also be authorized using the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days."

I like many people have two Apple ID's and in a family with a shared desktop there may be four or five. If the father say sets up iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads on his iTunes login noone else can access thier purchases on thier iTunes login because the device is associated with his Apple ID exclusively for 90 days. Considering fast user switching and multiple logins are features designed for multiple users why would iTunes deliberatly exclude multiple users from full access to thier accounts on the same machine. I know you will say it's to prevent theft, the uncontrolled sharing of iTunes purchases but there are plenty of ways to get around this if one really wants to. Perhapes it's about Apple saying to record companies and developers, we've done the best we can to protect your copywrite and bugger the consumers.

This is not correct.

You mean only one user is allowed to redownload past purchases.

Everyone can sync past purchases with no issues.

The solution is to not delete items in iTunes and they won''t need to be redownloaded.

that's right. So what is your recommended method of setting up a new Mac Desktop with multi user login with different appleIDs and itunes data stores and allow each user to use Itunes and access all their music from that device to sync with iphone, ipads, ipods etc?

What if you lost all your data on your old mac desktop and were starting from scratch for the family household?

Each user have their own computer login/account. Then they all have their own data (apart from iTunes unles they want their own iTunes).

Put the iTunes library in /Users//Shared then all can access it.

  1. Quit iTunes.
  2. Move the current /Music/iTunes/ folder to /Users/SHared folder.
  3. Hold Option and launch iTunes.
  4. Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared/.
  5. Quit iTunes, log into the next user and go to the next user & do steps 3, 4, 5.

Now when any user adds anything, it can be used by all.

Don't delete items and they won't need to be redownloaded.

You can copy iTunes purcahses from your devices.

Connect device, open iTunes then File > Devices > Transfer purchases.

It sounds like you need to invest in a backup system for your computer. Given the reality this policy is in effect you need to make sure you are never in a position where you need to redownload from multiple store accounts in a short period of time. Also realize that if an item gets removed from the store by the distributor it is gone for everybody, including previous purchasers.
