When I start up iMac, Chrome automatically opens. How do I make it stop?

I have Safari, Chrome and Firefox as browsers. They are all in my dock. Safari is my default browser.

After I've shut down the computer, when I start up again, Chrome is the only browser that opens automatically at start up. I don't want any of them to do that. I've looked through preferences and can't find anything. I've looked in my Library:StartUpItems folder, but there seems to be nothing there.

Thank you! Before I shut down yesterday, I actually rightclicked the dock icon and set it to open at login. Then I deselected it again. I have never set anything to open at login there before, but today when I started up, Chrome did not open automatically (for the first time in many weeks). But just to be safe, I may lose the potential offender you have listed. Thanks so much for your help, it was driving me crazy!

Hi, I'm having a similar problem with Safari running on Mavericks. tried all the basic ways of preventing this already.

This all started up after Ghosting my old 250 gig HD on to a 1TB Drive. All the page it always opens up on is rather random as I have never seen it before (luckily nothing dodgy looking) But its very annoying!

The Software i used to copy my HD was S u p e r D u p e r - 100% sure its to blame!

Any help would be most appreciated !

Thanks

Hi,

I found a way to fix this.

Go to Apple Start -> System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Tap on Login items -> uncheck Chrome -> ensure you have authorised the chane by entering your password.

Viola !!!! we are away from the annoying issue of chrome.

Hope this helps.

Select "Users & Groups"

Click the lock to make changes

Click on your user account

Select "Login Items"

Make sure Google Chrome is NOT checked

I'm pretty sure that just stops it from showing in the Dock, to stop it from launching you need to highlight Chrome & click the tiny minus icon to remove it. 🙂

Check Activity Monitor All Processes to see if it's running by just unchecking it.
