Screen shot no longer works in Mavericks..?

Hi,
Since I updated to Mavericks the cmd+shift+4 to make screen shots no longer works. I use this TONS as it easily adds specific screenshot to Desktop and from there I can email or whatever. When I take the screen shot it just does not appear anywhere....? Anywone else with same problem?
Thanks,

Alex

The issue I have is similar to original post- I take a screenshot and it does not appear in the "screenshot" directory immediately like it used to pre-Mavericks. However, if I do a search for the file by date, such as "05-21" for a file shot today, it will find it in the search right away. But it doesnt appear in the directory listing. It eventually shows up in finder, but it can take minutes So everytime I do a screenshot now, I need to search for the file instead of just seeing it in Finder.

Screenshots still seem to work for me.

As you can see here, I took a screenshot of your post: User uploaded file

Perhaps your disk is full? Or maybe for whatever reason your screenshot is going to a different location than the desktop. For a while with Lion(I think) I had issues with screenshots not saving to the desktop but after a while it just started working again. I'm not positive what the problem is. I'm running Mavericks now and haven't had any problems with it.

I am running a Retina Macbook Pro with Mavericks 10.9.3 installed. I was having this problem today, but I did a few things that got rid of the issue...

1) Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Screen Shots, and click each of these 4 boxes...

User uploaded file

Then close the window.

2) Open the application "Terminal."

Type in killall Finder > Push enter

Type in killall Dock > Push enter

Close the program

3) Turn off the computer. Now turn it on, but hold down "CMD + OPTION + P + R" on the keyboard as it boots up. This will restart your computer. Let the keys go after the restart, and let it boot all the way. Pressing these keys clears your PRAM and NVRAM settings--it doesn't harm your computer at all, but it is supposed to help give your battery a boost. Apparently, it also resolved my screen shot issues.

I blame my screen shot issues on a program I tried installing today--it must have messed with the OS somehow. Hope all of this helps!

So they're in your desktop directiory and show in Finder but they won't show on your desktop?

Do you have any applications that modify the desktop or any UI views? (i.e. Flavours, etc.)

Also, there is no plist file I can see. I'm assuming you've attempted a restart and re-log in to the computer. That's always a good place to start. Or you can open Terminal.app and use these two commands to restart your Finder's UI.

killall Finder

killall Dock

Actually they don´t alway appear in my Finder either until some time later... which I have not been able to deduce yet.

However I have found something out.

1. If i take screen shots they dont appear anywhere.

2. When I delete SOMETHING from my Desktop, the screenshots suddenly appear on Desktop and in finder...

Go figure...

Any help would be much appreciated as its a function I use daily.

Thanks,

A

Yes I still have the problem... there is a whole problem with the screenshot thing. To remedy it I tried to link it to my DropBox so my screenshots would appeat in DropBox file instead of Desktop. But the same problem persists. They dont always immeidately appear in my DB file...

Im surprised Apple have not yet fixed this as many people seem to use this function.

I'm also having this problem, but it's only surfaced in the last week or so - a system update problem?? I find that if I go into e.g. Photoshop and browse to my Screenshots directory, the files show up; they just don't appear directly in the Finder, which seems odd. I can open in Photoshop and re-save the image to the same location, but it's a real pain. Please fix, Apple!!

I had this problem as well, and realized it was DropBox causing the issue. For those of you that have Dropbox installed, click the DB icon from your toolbar and select the little gear icon in the lower right corner of the window to access the preferences. Under the Import tab, there is a Screenshots box. If the "Share Screenshots using Dropbox" checkbox is selected, all of the screenshots you take using the key commands go into your DB>Screenshots folder instead of on your desktop. Just uncheck that box, and any screenshots you take from now on using those key commands will land on your desktop. Good luck!
