iPhoto and iMovie gone after Mavericks upgrade

I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and lost ALL of my applications. I finally have most everything back in order, but iPhoto and iMovie are gone and now the App Store says I need to purchase them.

Why should I have to purchase them when I already own them from the purchase of my MacBook Pro? Getting a free Mavericks upgrade should not cause me to have to spend $30 to get the applications back that I already owned in the first place.

Please help me restore those two applications.

Thanks,

Greg

Thank you for your comment, rather than a simple, terse reply that did not contain anything of value.

I had surmised that some artifact undoubtedly triggered the issue, also - All sources and systems were operational and original Apple. The MacBook user was from when Mavericks came out and had remained unused from when I moved to my desktop mini.

The problem was fixed days ago by simply downloading a new copy of iPhoto, which I purchased years ago. I had been looking for a simple fix, ***-u-ming other had seen this problem. And, I ended up posting because some "experts" seemed very quick on the draw to abuse the damaged users that were actually asking for help.

I'm glad you demonstrated more of the sense of community than the others I'd seen.

In the old days, engineers used to help each other willingly and the only thing that would receive "corrective" comments would be the concept or procedure rather than the person. We always found that would help progress and you never know who you'll meet on the way back to the bottom... (yes, hackneyed and tattered old pearl of wisdumb)

This iPhoto trick worked for me (in this case, upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks):

The new Mavericks install had iPhoto 9.2.1. iPhoto wasn't available in the App Store. The web download/install of iPhoto 9.4.3 did not work.

I went to another computer that had a working copy of iPhoto 9.4.3 (in this case, a 10.8 MBA). I simply copied the iPhoto app to the computer with the Mavericks upgrade. It opened right up, updated the library, and now it's working.

Hi,

I found this thread as I was facing the same issue, with iMovie and iPhoto. App Store was asking me to pay for them, after I uninstalled them.

This is what I did. Hope this helps people stumbling here like me.

1. Go to - App Store > "Featured" Tab > Account (In the right sidebar)

2. Enter your App Store credentials used for original setup.

3. Go to - Hidden Items > Manage

4. You should see some purchases here. Mine include : iChess 3D, OSX Mountain Lion, iMovie and iPhoto.

5. Unhide what you need.

6. Click on "Purchased" tab.

7. You should now have Install option against the unhidden items. Install without paying again.
