my period key doesn't work; until I get it fixed, can I create a shortcut that makes a period?

Whoops, I mean every time I want a period, I have to hit = and then space bar -- correct?

Now I can't seem to get this to work in OO at the end ot a word, only in isolation, which is useless. Must be a trick....
