iMovie crops the heads off

I cannot get the video to fit in the imove screen. It crops the heads off of people. I have tried to fix it by adjusting the center so it will chop their feet off, but that isn't working. I am taking video that I took from my camera of my my friends birthday and trying to put it in imove. It is a disaster! Can anyone help me?

That didn't help. I don't want to crop any of the video I took I want the entire shot. It wants to crop all my videos and pictures. I've tried fit, crop, moing the stabilizer out of zoom, turning it off. No matter what I do I cannot get the entire shot in the frame. And forget about the ones that are sideways, when I flip them itis a disaster.

You can convert your 640x480 video to 854x480 using MPEG Streamclip.

If you import the 854x480 movie in iMovie 10, the complete movie is available.

An example on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZKYLUsi-g8

Details for using MPEG Streamclip: http://www.squared5.com/

Open file (Cmd-O)

Export to QuickTime (Cmd-E)

Compression: Apple Intermediate Codec

Quality 100%

Frame Size: 854x480 (16:9)

Zoom: 100%, X/Y: 0.75

Make Movie

I am also VERY interested on how to export to a 4:3 aspect ratio, but cannot find where nor how I can do it. In reference to the screenshot where there is the option to export to SD480P (640 x 480) I believe that the ORIGINAL video file was selected and NOT the edited one. When I select the imported video file and select 'Share' I do have the option (the ONLY option) to export as 640 x 480, but my changes are not included.

So it seems that the changes need to be made and the re-encoded (again) using a different program (like MPEG Streamclip) to get rid of the pillar-bars. 😟 Shame on Apple!
