My iPad with retina display updated to iOS 7.0.4 keeps freezing up and crashing.

I am having troubles with my ( iPad with retina display ) the one before the ( iPad air ). When in the YouTube app and a few others I noticed as well watching a video or doing anything on the iPad, with it opened up or even after it being installed on my iPad, it freezes my iPad locks it up or it just re-starts my iPad. At times I can not use the home button, power button, anything at all and have to wait for the iPad to try and cure itself before re-starting it or before it re-starts itself. After troubleshooting my iPad with Apple to see if it was my iPad or something wrong with iOS 7 update, it seems that it is the YouTube app and any other app that causes these types of problems so I have deleted and re-installed the YouTube app after speaking with Apple and again and still the same problem. For now I have deleted the app and the others until I hear about a fix for the problem. Hope this helps out anyone with the same problem.

I've had a lot of freezes at the login screen, reboots, and long slow refusals to reboot with iOS 7.0.4, so I looked at the Internet. It seems that lots of people are having that problem since they updated to 7.0.4, and it isn't specific to an application or phone or tablet. Best hope is that Apple will realize it, find a root cause, and release a bug fix.

Connect to iTunes and restore the device as new. This will completely reinstall IOS. Backup your device first. See if the device works OK without installing any additional apps. Then download the and do a restore of the backup. You may also have an app that is causing the problem. In which case you will need to install the apps one at a time, check the device, then repeat to find the offending app.

Dear Apple friends,

I have the exact same problem with some apps.

Even when I try some websites in Safari and Chrome that require loading big chunks of data they crash.

Today it crashed in two new places. In the notification center and when I opened newstand app I no longer was able to return to the main window and the dock disappeared.

I have my ipad retina for about three months now but latelly this issue has became more frequent. What should I do?

Should I update to the latest firmware and do what raymond73 said?

Is there a fix for this issue?

Has Apple said anything about this? Because I see that this issue is happening to a lot of people.

Is it possible to downgrade to iOS 6?

Is it a firmware problem? That can be fixed in future releases? Or an hardware issue?

Should I wait or go to the place I bought it and try to get the money back?

Resetting does not work. Many people have tried replacing them per Apple's urging, but it still happens with the new one. Based on searching the web (since I have the same problem), it appears to be a common problem with iPad 4s with retina display. Mostly it happens when switching between apps. Well just have to keep waiting until they come up with the new iOS update that solves the problem. Once, that is, they admit there is a problem. That part usually takes the longest.

I have been having the same issue. I bought my iPad 4 with retina display in February 2013. Everything has worked fine until the recent iOS 7.0.4 update. My iPad now randomly freezes and will not accept BT keyboard commands or screen inputs (taps). The only thing I can do is to do a reset ( home button + power button), but the restart time can be quite long before I'm up and running again.

This makes my iPad almost useless as a business device since I can no longer rely on it - it froze up during a client meeting when I needed to pull information. Does anyone know if the iPad Air or iPad Mini with Retina display are experiencing the same freezes? If not, then I'll need to see what Apple can do.

I have also done a full erase and restore from my iCloud backup and the freeze issue continued. I have an appointment with the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store Saturday, so hopefully they can shed some light on this and get me something that I can rely on for business. I'll post what I find out.

I replaced my trusty iPad 2 with a mini retina this past November. Now I'm having the same problem. Apps crash (such as Safari). It reboots when it feels like and on rare occasions like today, it simply froze and it wouldn't reset until of course it did.

I don't have a genius bar anywhere near so I hope I can get help over the phone. Isn't this a warranty issue?

I got my new iPad mini2 (16G wifi with 7.0.4 preinstalled) on Jan 14. It constantly crashes and reboots. I've tried reseting the iPad both from iPad itself and from the iTunes application but the problem is still there. Wondering if it's a hardware issue so I may return it back to Apple.
