Unapproved Caller

I am recently updated OS X Mavericks and i was using just fine for about 2 weeks, recently i started to see issues and my loginwindow keep on crashing, When i try to open App Store it throws error " Unapproved Caller SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple Software" , it throws same error when i try to logout or restart my MBP.

Let me know if anyone has resolution to this problem.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Error: Unapproved caller. SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple software.

I had this issue while trying to install Yosemite on MBP 2014 model SSD.

Solution was to run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Then I rebooted and logged into an Administrator account. I was able to run the Yosemite installer without the error. If you only have one account I would try creating a new account with Admin rights. Then log onto that account and run the install from there.

I have the exact same problem. I tried every thing mentioned earlier. I have ordered the cable so I haven't tested it yet with that.

However, I have tried the /var/folders method with no success! The message keeps coming back. I have tried a new install of Snow Leopard (that CD came with my mac). However on Snow Leopard I don't get that message AT ALL and as soon as I upgrade to Yosemite (which I need since SL is too old for some of the software I run) I get the message as soon as OSx boots up.

I have no idea why this is happening. It shouldn't be the HDD cable as I don't get it in SL

I find it amusing that someone can "try" to guess what YOUR SPECIFIC issue is or isn't. How can you say you don't think its his HDD? I believe the UNAPPROVED CALLER caller message can be a result of several issues, and trouble-shooting is the way to diagnose. If all else fails, as the final option, you may need to replace the HDD cable. I also thought the cable wasn't the problem (but its more wishful thinking), then once i replaced the cable, BAM, everything was back to normal...actually better as my cable must have been wearing out slowly.

WATCH THIS VIDEO ABOUT UNAPPROVED CALLER message.

After watching this, it makes sense.

I am NOT saying this is true for all others, but its good to know that "if" you can't figure whats wrong, this may help.

GOOD LUCK!

Mac OS X fix for Unapproved caller. SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple software

Because I had the exact same error message!! I was trying to install Yosemite. I had zero I repeat zero issues with the laptop prior to installing Yosemite. I've also had the same error on three other random laptops. In my situation it was never, I repeat never the HDD cable.

I support 300+ MBPs. I never replaced a HDD cable on any of the three MBP that had the error of Unapproved Caller!

Sometimes the simplest answer is the solution. Before jumping on the band wagon just because everyone else did, it doesn't mean you have to!! Like rushing out and buying a HDD cable because some crack pot thinks it's the solution to everything!

Like buying the HDD ribbon cable. My solution doesn't cost anything besides a little time.

I guess some people lack in their troubleshooting ability or are just plain amateurs!

@pcteklink, I have tried that numerous times but that just works for a few hours and after that I need to do that again. It starts to get tedious very quickly!

Mac OS X fix for Unapproved caller. SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple software

I have ordered a cable and it will arrive between this Friday and Thursday after. I have seen replacing the cable to be the solution for a bunch of issues posted here so I hope it is the case for me as well.

Unapproved Caller

Re: Unapproved Callerin response to tmodi

I must concur with those who identified the HDD cable as the source of the problem. My Macbook Pro (mid-2010) started showing the "unapproved caller" message about two weeks ago, associated with the same symptoms that others described. Tried everything from reparing disk permissions, Maverick reinstall to removing var/folders/--all to no avail. I was skeptical at first about blaming the HDD cable but once I had swapped it out for a new one the problem was gone--all back to normal! I had replaced my Hard Drive earlier this year, so it is possible that the cable got damaged in the process.

Since people come up with very different solutions to the "unapproved caller" phenomenon, either the "unapproved caller" message flags multiple, very different problems (seems unlikely but who knows ....), or some of the suggested remedies won't hold up. Keep reporting in if your solution worked or failed to keep its promise!

A word from Apple on this issue would be nice too....

@pcteklink Your support of 300 MBPs is impressive and dwarfs the two that I "support" here at home, but many of us only jumped on the so-called "band wagon" after trying every other solution, including yours, and nothing worked. Replacing the HDD cable did not logically made any sense to me, but as a last resort, after every other fix failed, I followed the advice of the "crack pots" (thanks for the name-calling, by the way, it really elevates the discussion) and it worked. What I would like to hear from you, the expert, is why replacing the HDD cable corrects the problem if, in fact, the problem can be resolved through less heroic means, which is what you seem to be implying. Thanks.

It most certainly is the HDD cable. Today DiskUtility (on my SL disk) doesn't even recognize my HDD anymore. However when I plugin a USB stick it does. Unfortunately I can't install osx on there as it just is an 8gb one and I don't have a bigger stick. My order is sending from the UK to the Netherlands so hopefully I can install the cable friday. I'll update when I installed it and tried!

Feb 9, 2015 2:27 PM in response to Chitoo

I just noticed that this threat, which started more than a year ago, is still going on. My MacBook Pro (mid 2010) started showing the "unapproved caller" message in March 2014. After trying out every other proposed remedy posted in this threat I replaced the HDD cable. This solved the problem. My MacBook, in fact, is still running in spite of its advanced age, even having been upgraded to OS X Yosemite. If other fixes work as well then great, but from what I see no one who replaced the HDD cable has experienced this problem again.

Feb 18, 2015 2:31 AM in response to McCaffertee

To update: I got the cable previous Thursday and installed it in the evenings.

I installed the Hard Disk which gave me the problem in the first place back in and it booted up just fine!

I still run it and have had no problems what so ever!

I suggest to every one having this "Unapproved Caller" error just to install a new HDD Cable. It isn't cheap but it saves you a lot of time. And there fore money. By any means, try the other solutions as it definitely worked for a few of us. However, changing the HDD cable worked for almost all of us and is an permanent solution.
