Missing emails in Mavericks mail app

Hi guys

yes it's another complaint to Mavericks mail app. I had an email randomly disapeer in my inbox. this is for my Outlook/hotmail/live mail using the new IMAP settigns that microsoft posted a few months back. Not only has the message disapeared on me in my mail app inbox but it's also synced with my web mail!!! the one time microsofts IMAP actually works for me!!! Are Apple looking into this?? or are they just focusing on Gmail?

help would be great if anyone knows how to recover it. or will i just have to wait for it to right itself

also I've checked all sub folders, junk and trash and all other email accounts on the app...no luck 😟

This seems to be related to the Apple Mail (OSX) app rather than Gmail. I've had messages disappear (I used iCloud as my mail service) and have just seen an long email vanish after spending 20 minutes composing it. It's very dispiriting and just another indicator that Apple have lost the plot.

I never thought I'd hear myself say this but I'm seriously contemplating a return to Windows. My Apple experience has undergone a seismic change, particularly in the last year.

I am also experiencing disappearing emails, in particular sent emails, "right before my eyes" also, using Mavericks Mail and iCloud. In fact, I can't even find the messages using icloud website. This is not a case of losing it someplace in a different mailbox etc but rather sending something which is received, and five minutes later looking for it, and it's gone.

I also experienced this: I just replied to an email, saw it in the outbox, but it never reached the sent box.
Haven't witnessed this before, nothing changed concerning my email accounts or the Mail app, so I wonder what this might be?

I tried replying again, to see if the mail would disappear again, but the second time it got stored in my sent box.

My first reply did get sent, the reciepent got it, just like others mentioned in this thread.

That first reply is not to be found on my mail server, it's not in other folders, it hasn't been deleted (it's not in my trash folder), not anywhere else.

It's a mystery.

I am using IMAP with my own domain/server (so no gmail, hotmail or other main emailprovider).

I'm finding that I'm losing emails (now having to back up important emails on a more reliable Gmail account) think it's specifically to do with the old MobileMe now iCloud email address I'm using. Mail appears to be deleting emails that I've flagged as important (exactly the OPPOSITE of what I'm wanting) and as a result has become a source of stress and annoyance

The native Mail client was tolerable (even with the idiotic situation that you can check other emails as you type a new one) but now it's gotten so stupid I'm having to look elsewhere. The search mechanism is broken as well in Mail and I'm finding emails that are not showing up in Search. Overall one of the truly wonderful elements of the Apple ecosystem is now so bad it might as well be Microsoft.

After 10 years away from Microsoft and being very happy with OSX and iOS I think I'm going to have to abandon Apple as the price premium no longer justifies the appalling shoddy products they are now pumping out with regards to software.

Unfortunately for Apple when I go I'm one of their last advocates in my company; so it's not just me they are losing. Not caring about the basic needs of a consumer eventually costs you your Enterprise business too. Should have watched what happened to BlackBerry as a warning there Apple. It's just been fault after fault for the last year. I expect to see Apple going the way of BlackBerry in less than a decade at this rate.

If anyone does discover how to resolve this nightmarish bug I'd still be grateful as I'm going to be stuck with this awful software for a few more months.

I too am having the same problem. I have an Exchange 2013 account connected to Mavericks mail and all was working well, then all of a sudden all emails from one particular sender have disappeared. Now I also run Parallels with Windows 7 64Bit and Office 2013. Outlook 2013 is connected to the same account and the emails from this sender are still there. Work that one out.

I'm very late to start using Mavericks, and I hit this the first day, after upgrading to 10.9.5. Mails disappear before or after I get to read them, but if I remember some of the text they turn up in a Search. At least some of them come back after I restart the Mac or quit and restart Apple Mail. but when they come back they show up as unread even if I have read them.

It looks like Mail is losing track of some incoming, but they're still somewhere in the Mail files. I have three different email accounts, so that may be one of the problems. I have Mail set to check every 15 minutes, and don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Time Machine is still writing to the backup disk (I started using a new external hard drive for Mavericks), so the problem might be that something going on in the background has a higher priority than Mail's internal housekeeping. But it's very annoying, and a solution would be very welcome.
