Iphone 5 not updating battery percentage. Now constantly restarting itself.

My iPhone 5 started two days ago just not updating the battery percentage. It stayed at the same percentage all day no matter how much I would use it and would only change if I would turn off the phone and turn it back on. I assumed this was starting because I had not done the update yet to my phone since I kept hearing mixed reviews about iOS7. I did the update and now my phone consantly restarts itself every couple of minutes. I cannot keep it on for more than 5 minutes. Even if I just let it sit without doing anything to it, it will restart itself. Each time it restarts the battery life shows as something different and I'm pretty sure its incorrect! I was annoyed at first and have tried doing everything I can to make this stop and now I'm just getting ****** that it's completely not working! I don't want to have to try to find the time to get to the apple store to have it looked at unless there is no way for me to fix this! I have never had ANY problems with any of my iPhones so I'm very upset that I upgraded to the 5 less than a year ago and have no issues with my iPhone 4. My boyfriend still uses my old iPhone 4 with no problems. I rarely do much on my phone so it's not like I/m on bad sites or downloading crap. I think I had just updated some of the apps that I've had on all my phones but that would be the only new thing that was done! Please someone HELP!

I just now have acquired this issue with my 5s which is incredibly frustrating. Earlier today the percentage was at 90% but didn't change for hours, then died. After that, I plugged my phone into the charger but as I used the phone the battery went back from 6% to 4% then got stuck at 4, then died. Tried to turn it on again and it took a few minutes. Percentage was stuck at 1% for a while and when I tried to restart my phone, it instead just died again. Not sure what to do!!!

Hello gymnastcw,

I would be concerned too if my iPhone was unexpectedly powering off repeatedly. I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this. I recommend following the steps below:

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off

Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.

Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.

After at least 30 minutes, if:

The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.

The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.

Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.

If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.

If the display turns on, go to step 4.

If the display remains black, go to next step.

Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.

If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Unfortunately, this did not help:/ I only see the correct percentage for the battery when I restart otherwise I can use and it says the same number all day no matter what I've done:/ thanks for that though because I did try everything and now it changes the percentage maybe three times throughout the day but stays frozen at that number for a couple hours so it still isn't correct! Guess I'll be making a not so happy trip to the apple store to complain! My iPhone 4 I had for two years plus and never a single problem! Not one! And now my boyfriend has been using it since I upgraded mine to the iPhone 5 so I'm very disappointed that I upgraded and it's already a huge issue and hasn't even been a year yet!

Please please can you inform me about what the Apple stroe said when you took your phone back. What did they do to it? or what did they say the problem was? I'm asking because the same thing has been going on and occuring with my phone so this may help me decide what I need to do. Thank you

Mine is doing the excate same thing, more so after I updated my iPhone 5 to the newest iOS software and I have only had this phone for about 4 months. Does anyone know what the Apple store said? I have a Genius appointment on Monday to try and resolve this issue.

I have the exact same thing as you and it started today and I'm already tired of it. I realy don't want to take it to the Apple Store, since the nearest one is an hour away. And to top it all off it just started to freeze as well. I updated to the new ios about a week or so ago. I've never had a problem like this before and my iPhone has been working like a charm. I noticede it when it had said it was 32% ever since noon this morning after long hours of charging and then I restarted it and it showed 100%. Once I restarted it the first time it started doing it on its own. I barely have it on for 5 minutes before it restarts. I also noticed that even when it restarts it has the apps I was on before still open. I haven't damaged it all and this is driving me nuts

Hi!

I am having the exact same issue on my iPhone 4s. The apple store guys are refusing to service this phone since I purchased it from outside of my country. But I did tried to get the battery replaced and even with the replaced battery, I am facing this issue.

Please let us know in case you are able to get this issue resolved.

I'm having some of the same issues! I've let the battery drain, charged it over night but it doesn't register the correct battery percentage. I spent $88 replacing the battery and STILL have issues. Now it's beginning to restart for no reason, within a 10 minute period it rebooted 3 times!!!!

If anyone finds a solution, please let us know!!!!

I just started experiencing the same issue over the past few days. I tried to reset my phone and restore it but it would reboot within the process of restore. I took it to apple, they said it was a hardware issue and couldn't do anything after we tried restore multiple times. I also did an update to the latest IOS. At apple my phone basically died. I am out of warranty now, so I need to purchase a new phone.

I took my phone home and reset it again and didn't restore from my backup, I did it as a new phone. It has t rebooted but the battery percentage issue is still there. If anyone finds a permanent fix please post.

Just to let everyone know..I had gone to the apple store then! Be sure to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT! We went over the winter and it was snowing with literally nobody in the store and they refused and were incredibly rude! I got an appointment a few weeks later and luckily was just before my warranty expired! They were going to only replace the battery in my phone which if you lightly shook it you could hear stuff moving as if a Christmas package...NOT COOL! When he said they would just try that I was incredibly annoyed knowing if it still didn't fix it my warranty would be up and couldn't do anything else..I was so frustrated I didn't even want my phone anymore! I explained how my family including myself and my boyfriend have TONS of different apple products and haver NEVER had any problems with any of them! Heck we still have the oldest iPods and they still work! We've also got our iPod touches, MacBooks, the desktop computers, iPads, and do on! So I explained that I keep all of my stuff in excellent condition and was extremely dissatisfied with my phone giving me so many issues that are such big problems that it started to make me reconsider my apple products! Needless to say I got a brand new iPhone 5 to replace it instead of just the battery change! I was very nice to the guy explaining my concerns and how unhappy I was and my patience with them (even though I was super ******) paid off! I've had some friends who had JUST the battery issue just buy kits online and replace it themselves and been perfectly fine since but if it's also doing the whole shut off thing, unfortunately I think that seemed to be a bigger issue :/ I've now had the new 5 for about 5+ months and everything has been perfectly fine!

Hello all, I too am now suffering from this same problem. I've done everything listed above except replacing the battery. I know a guy locally and will pay him $60 for a new battery install and let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed.

My iPhone 4S just started this over the last few days. I know my battery is weak and it has been discharging really fast. I keep the phone on a charger almost all the time now. But the last few days it is not showing the percentage correctly unless I reboot the phone. Then it will start to reboot on its own. I tried changing the battery myself about 3 months ago and stripped one of the tiny screws so I could never seem to get the old battery out.

I didn't feel like paying $88 to have the Apple Store replace it. I have an appointment at the apple store in a hour so I will see what they offer to do. I was hoping to hold out for the iPhone 6.
