iPhoto doesn't work after Mavericks "update"
I updated to Mavericks Iphoto and now it doesn't populate any of my photos, videos, or events from before the update. It asks me to find a library on my computer.

Where is the Library?
I have multiple photos across multiple sources on my computer, which previously were found and organized into events. Now, nothing populates at all.
Thanks for the attention.
Where is your iPhoto Library?
It's...well...gone. As if it never existed. The photos are scattered throughout my computer, but the iphoto resource which collected and categorized them is not there. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but after the update, my iphoto didn't act as the smart-hub of my photos.
Thanks
Your iPhoto Library should, by default, be in your Pictures folder. Is there one there?
My Pictures folder has nothing in it, though my images category (all my files-->images) has everything under the sun, including clipart.
Thanks
Well select one of the files in that All Images category, one that you recognise from your iPhoto Library. What does it show for its location?
And of course...
Do you have a back up? Did you make one before you updated?
The location's vary; some are from my downloads, some are from a USB. I also feel like I'm missing some, but can't confirm that. I do have a backup via carbonite.
Why did it change? I liked it the way it was.
Tony
Restore from your back up.
Thanks, but Carbonite is a file backup, not a Mac OS backup. Is there a way to revert to Mountain Lion? That worked. Plus, I don't use Time Machine backup.
Can I simply uninstall Mavericks then reinstall it?
Thanks again for your time.
I believe TD was referring to rstoring your iPhoto Library, not the system. But I doubt that you'll be able to restore your library intact from Carbonite. You should certainly try, however.
OT
The default library doesn't exist anymore, so I can't restore it, even with iphoto library manager. Iphoto doesn't even recognize the photos on my computer anymore. Carbonite will be of no help at addressing the broken app. And I can't revert to mountain lion, which functioned perfectly, because the updated os bundled multiple updates.
Does anyone have any ideas how to make mavericks iphoto function properly, short of wiping the whole computer and reinstalling everything? This is a nuisance.
Thanks.
As you've noted it sounds like there's no libary on your hard drive.
However, download and use Find Any File to search for "Library6.iPhoto". That's a file that exists in all iPhoto Libraries.
If your library is hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it. FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.
It you can't find your previous library you'll need to start over with a new library and import what photos you have into it.
Thanks, I downloaded FAF and the folder no longer exists. I appreciate your help. Hopefully the next iPhoto update fixes this.
Tony
I suggest you implement a backup stragety that involves an external HD for your iPhoto Library and other files. Without a local, correctly formatted backup you're bound to repeat this loss again at some time.
As nearly all update/upgrade instructions say to backup your hard drive before proceeding it would be a prudent avenue to take.
