How do I erase an iPhone 4 with a passcode

I have a iPhone 4 that we retrived froma formeer employee that has a passcode.

How do I erase this and put a fresh OS on the device?

Place the iPhone into Recovery Mode with iTunes on the computer being used which will restore the iPhone - select as a new iPhone.

This should cover it

basically restore as new ,as long as it didn't have iOS7 which will block activation without the Apple iD of the user

Worth remembering if you don't part on good terms 😉
