2008 MacBook Pro black screen
I have a 2008 MacBook Pro that has been working fine until now. Yesterday I switched it on, I heard the start-up chime, but the screen was black. I have tried resetting the VRAM, using an external monitor, etc. But nothing works, the computer seems to be running, but I can't get any image.
After repeated searches on the internet it seems most likely an issue related to the faulty GeForce 8600M GT .
I've found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 which is of little help, as it seems to imply that if your computer failed after december 7, 2012 you're out of luck, even if the problem is with a faulty hardware piece and has been acknowledged by both parts (Apple and Nvidia).
Is this true? Are my only options to pay for a full repair (if this is even possible) or getting a new computer? Or does Apple still fix computers with this problem even after december, 2012?
