We could not complete your App Store request - 10.8.4 Mountain Lion

Simply cannot access the App Store anymore. Always getting this error when trying to access "Purchase" or "Updates" (logged in or not):

We could not complete your App Store request.

The App Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

About a year ago I installed a new SSD into the laptop, so I've been able to insert the old hard drive and verify on the old install that I can access the app store no problem.

I can access the iTunes store fine also. No problems there.

Where do I go from here?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Linc - I'm having a similar issue to MatthewRuddy on my iMac - running OSX 10.8.5 - (other macs work OK).

App Store 'Purchases' returns my purchased list (although interestingly it doesn't reflect what's actually installed) and 'Updates' (it's aware of 1) returns the '...App Store is temporarily unavailable please try later...' error

The relevant log is slight with a general 500 error code and some sort of failed wait on a flag:

30/12/2013 20:05:37.433 App Store[15600]: CKSoftwareMap: updateRequestBodyData:includeInstalledApps:includeBundledApps:conditionally:had UnadoptedApps:waitUntilMapIsLoaded: timed out waiting for mdSemaphore

30/12/2013 20:05:37.854 App Store[15600]: FRWebDelegate: Received http status code 500 on response.

30/12/2013 20:05:47.491 storeagent[231]: CKSoftwareMap: updateRequestBodyData:includeInstalledApps:includeBundledApps:conditionally:had UnadoptedApps:waitUntilMapIsLoaded: timed out waiting for mdSemaphore

Tried logging out/in - no effect. I guess I need to rebuild some config?

Appreciate the help.

Yup; the exact same this is happening for me. I can see purchases, and download new things, but "Updates" gives me the "We could not complete ... The App Store is temporarily unavailable ..." (It's not; I just updated three other Macs in the house.) Nothing I do fixes it. I've rebooted, fixed perms, removed cookies from Safari, removed Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist and ....storeagent.plist, removed Caches/com.apple.appstore* I even followed one suggestion of downloading a new app from the store with the belief that this would "kick" the App Store app. I've tried everything I could think of except the rather silly suggestion of reinstalling the OS from scratch.

Does anyone have any insight?

Thanks.

I have the same issue with 10.8.5.

App Store on the dock shows 1 update. I click on it and it takes me to the main page of the App Store, which works.

Click on 'Updates' and it freezes for ages before finally switching to this tab and displaying the message about the store being temporarily unavailable.

Pretty much tried everything I've seen suggested.

A long time Mac user, and this is possibly the first time I've ever felt I might need to reinstall the OS due to an insurmountable issue.

Well, I agree - there seems to be no logic as to why spotlight would be key to the App Store.

BUT I have turned off Quicksilver, restarted Spotlight (with the command oviano described above) and the App Store now works!

So go figure.

I agree it would be decent for Apple to comment - but given that this discussion has been open since November last year with no offical resolution offered - decency clearly doesn't come into it.
