I hooked up my MacBook Pro to a high quality Sony Data Projector and the screen showed the message: "Frequency out of range". I tried detect displays, which didn't help. I could not get an image until I clicked on "Mirror Displays" under System Prefs. Then I could see my laptop display on screen and set the resolution and frequency. As soon as I clicked off the "Mirror Displays", the image on screen disappeared again.
I prefer not to use "Mirror Displays", so that people in the audience cannot see my screen. Any ideas on how this can be done and what the problem might be?
A lot of those projectors only allow a resolution of 1024x768.
Change the resolution, then try connecting it.
The high-res of our Macs usually causes grief for those devices.
Thanks. Yes, to your first 3 questions.
Re your comments in the last 3 sentences, I have the same experience.
On reflection, although this is a Presenter's problem, I think that it is not a Keynote issue per se. Keynote ran fine, but there seems to be a problem in the way Mac OS X or the MacBook Pro interacted with this Sony projector.
Any other ideas?
Was Keynote configured to "Present on a secondary display", by selecting the checkbox in the Preferences menu? Did you try to play your presentation? Also in the Displays preference did you click Arrange and follow the onscreen instructions? Generally you should see your desktop image (but not your desktop icons) after connecting to the projector. I set my desktop image to the background image I'm using for my presentation. I usually play the first few slides of my presentation to insure everything is working correctly.
Thanks. I did that when 'Mirror Displays' was checked and the projector easily handled 1024x768 and resolutions/frequencies above. As soon as I unchecked the box, the data projector screen went black.
Any other ideas?
