Deleting emails on Mail App won't delete them from the server.

When i delete/trash emails on the Mail application it does nothing to the mailbox on the server.

i.e. If i log into the server manually through the browser it remains in the inbox. And more annoyingly also on all my other devices. Whereas, if i delete on my phone or Ipad, it is deleted everywhere and the folders are a replica of each other.

Can i create this same relationship between my Macbook Pro and the online server?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9), iPad 4th Gen, iPhone 4S

I've had the same problem using both Apple Mail and Microsoft Outlook. The trash is never emptied on the server. Trash ONLY gets emptied if I do it from my iPhone using Apple iOS. It does not do it using Apple Mail OR Outlook on my Mac (which are now running Yosemite). And it's just us customers on the forum. No Apple techs involved, as far as I can see.
