Everyday Software Update reminds me that there are updates available, but I don't want them. I know I could just let it do the update, but I find this really intrusive for them to force something new onto my computer by pestering the crap out of me. How do I disable this extremely annoying function for particular software I don't want?

I'm not sure which setting you are suggesting should be changed. What I used to be able to do prior to the Mavericks upgrade was let the app store automatically check, but not download anything. But if I didn't want an upgrade I didn't have to see a daily nag about installing it.
I don't use iMovie and I don't want the update and there is no option I can see (a) to say about that particular update that I don't want it or (b) to indicate that I want the app store to check for updates but not remind me about things I've chosen not to install.
If you're saying I have to turn off automatic checking for updates, then I guess I'll have to live with that - another in the long line of disappointments in the "upgrade" to Mavericks
Well it's a bit of a blunt hammer, but it should do the trick. I like knowing when there are OS updates, so didn't really want to turn the entire thing off, but that's what I've had to do. They need to add another choice to the reminder dialog, something like Stop reminding me about this update.

I don't believe you can have it both ways. You can check manually if you wish.

Im not sure what the "app store preference pane" is but what I did was i went to System Preferences, under System I opened Software Update and unchecked the box for automatically check for updates. I guess now Ill just have to periodically check them myself though, but better than the constant reminders to update to Mavericks.
Change the settings in the App Store preference pane (not the application.)
I believe there is a way to ignore or hide specific updates to keep them from recurring, but I don't recall how. Anyone know. It's a simple keystroke If I'm not mistaken.
