pink background

Hello folks,

My MacBook Pro, Mid 2010 Core i5 15.4", has developed an issue with pink backgrounds randomly appearing on open windows but not on the background. Moving the screen makes no difference so it doesnlt look like it is a connection issue. Sometimes it will stay on other times it just appears and disappears again. Any ideas? I was hoping that I wouldn't need to take it apart but I have already tried resetting the SMC

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

The display or GPU may be damaged.

When you get the pink background, take a screenshot by holding Command, Shift and 3 keys, and open the screenshot in the desktop. If pink background shows up, the GPU is damaged. If not, the display is damaged.

If you have got a Mid 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro, you should know that the NVIDIA GPU is damaged and that Apple is repairing all those MacBooks Pro for free > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088 However, this won't apply if the integrated GPU is damaged
