MacBook Pro will not go to sleep.
Whenever I updated to Maverick my macbook pro will not go to sleep I have to shut it down all the way then boot it back up. Is this common with this new OS?

I hope you have some other backup plan in place. Your hard drive will fail, often around the three year point and it looks like it might be at about that point now.
Please post the results of pmset as I wrote in my original reply, repeated here for convenience:
It may be instructive to identify the actual process that is preventing sleep. The following instructions can be used with any OS X version.
pmset -g
Look for the line resembling the following:
sleep 1 (sleep prevented by 360)
That will be the process that prevented sleep.
I've had this problem a few times now. The cause in my case seemed to relate to Flash Player (Safari Internet..) The way I first noticed it was an issue is because I opened Activity Monitor and Flash was Hogging 1.4 GB of Real Memory. So I quit the process and just like normal my MBP went to sleep as it should. However even after restarting Safari and then the computer itself, Flash no longer worked properly so I had to reinstall an update. After that it worked fine for several weeks.
It just happened to me again and so I automatically Quit Flash in the Activity Monitor and then restarted Safari. Everything worked normal after that.
Something seems to be going on with the Flash Plugin. This thread is several months old since anyone has posted, but if anyone else runs into the problem, try the Flash Removal solution. To view most any videos nowadays we need Flash so you'll need to restart Safari if you Quit the process. If you have a corrupted Flash like I did the first time, a simple reinstall and restart should do the trick. Hope this helps someone.
