How do I change my media sync options in my iPhone?

I have added some songs on iTunes on my MacBook Pro, and I'm trying to sync it with my iPhone. Also, got the message an OS upgrade is available. When I tried it said this: "Updating to iOS 7.0.4 requires at least 610 MB of free space on your iPhone. Please change your media sync options to make more storage available." How do I do that?

"deleting stuff" doesn't answer the question "how do i change media sync options in my iPhone?"

If anyone has an answer to this questions please respond.

You learn a lot about people's character not so much by their actions as by their reactions. The net is full of playground bully types who get cocky and full of attitude from the safety and relative anonymity of their computers. Real teachers are patient with their students. They don't roll their eyes and say, "How dumb are you?"

for me it's in the wording ...

the initial wording of the message i first got made me think it was referring to something else, hence i ended up on this thread, that wording and responses to the question continued to make me think it's was referring to something else, until i read Nate_Dogg's response >>>

Inside iTunes with your iPhone connected you should see the iPhone listed under "DEVICES". Click on the iPhone and you will now see various buttons across the top: Summary, Info, Apps, Music, Movies... Here you can untick the songs, movies, apps, etc you don't want sync'd to your iPhone. Make sure to hit "Sync" button at the bottom. This will clear space on your iPhone.

>>> >>> then it was ME rolling my eyes, like 'well why didn't they just say that in the first place' !! ;-)))

my understanding is when you connect your phone to 'sync' your music playlists, movies etc you see your phone storage move up or down, but you're not loosing (or deleting) anything you're just putting it in or out of your phone.

so to 'change media sync options' means just (temporarily) unSYNC all your playlists and movies (until you have installed your update) than carry on as normal i.e. connect and sync your phone choosing whatever playlists and movies etc you would normally choose

i wish there was a picture upload feature because i would be so easy to make everyone roll there eyes ;-))

i am constantly surprised and disappointed by some of blatant( imo) communication and software logic omissions that apple seem to constantly make (don't get me started on iTunes or iPhoto) there's a part of me that just feels that the money isn't in it for them (to bother to worry about the details in their software in the same way they worry about there hardware

the give a lot of software away free and sometime i think well what can one expect if you're getting it for free ??

i am not saying anything bad against apple (because i LOVE them) i'm just saying that only the ones that you love can hurt you and apple hurts me often ;-))) LOL but not enough to stop my loving them, they jut frustrate the **** out of me and i just wish they could put a little more of their billions into making there software truly as awesome as their hardware, design, details etc but then i come back to the the money (they give it away for free) is just not in it for them, their are days when i feel the software is getting closer and closer to being like a PC (there i said it) LOL

i wish (and will not argue with anyone) i just wanted to share a couple of thoughts and say thanks to those (N_D)who helped me to work out (and understand) the 'media sync options', also why couldn't they have a link in the error message that links you to a picture and word step by stemp explanation, or just explain it to you in the message ??)

not (even close to being) a computer wiz ;-)) LOL

Here's the best answer I found: http://mobilemeandering.com/how-to-fix-rentals-that-wont-delete-on-your-ipad-ipo d-touch-or-iphone/

In essence, he says "Plug in your iOS device, go to iTunes, and then view the Summary page. Under Options check the box next to “Manually Manage music and videos. *Apply* the changes, and then ...<edit> ... delete the movies.”.

I must be really slow but I cannot see how the advice given above to stop syncing items can possible make more space on the device.

Templeton Peck say "disable some items so less stuff is synced, therefore creating more available space."

If everything on my device is synced and I haven't changed anything since last time I did a sync then surely nothing will change next time I do a sync?

If I turn off syncing (of ANY or ALL items) then nothing will happen surely, and no space will be created.

I'm no expert but it seems to me that if it is short of space then the only way you can make more space is by deleting something. Just changing sync options without changing anything else isn't going to delete anything and so can't make more space.

Or am I missing something?

When in iTunes every section in the left hand column on your screen has selectable items that are sync'd. Across the bottom of the iTunes screen is how full your iPhone is, with the last grey segment being how much memory is left or available. If your apps are sizeable, e.g. your documents attached to an app are big, or your log files for a monitor app or mail are huge, then you might want to back them off. Then unclick select the box (to uninstall) that means the app wont be installed to your phone and then resync. For example films are huge if you don't plan on watching them in the middle of a Jungle click and unselect and sync this will free up on most occasions about 1.5GB for a single film. And so on.

The bit that seems to be missing in the pop up explanation is that the upgrade needs as much space as not only the size of the upgrade but also enough space to park your existing installation in case it needs to revert to it. Therefore the general rule of thumb is that you need twice as much space as it says so if its 770MB then make sure you have 1.4GB (preferably 2GB) available memory space you will get the space back after a successful upgrade and then you can put the stuff you removed back. This has always worked for me.

Good luck 🙂

So I have 2.33 GB free and no movies or TV stuff and mainly just apps and data...and still will not down load ....so maybe requires 2/3 more space than suggested above? Auto sync off, photos on icloud. Now removed Gmail and have 5 Gig and more,

and still "Updating to iOS 9.3.5 requires at least 610 MB of free space on your iPhone. Please change your media sync options to make more storage available." this message...?

Is the new soft ware worth it ? - hope so and if any awesome ideas come up let me know.

Many thanks.

There is nothing to tick, under devices is my phone only there is no other option. I need to change the media sync options, where can I speak with a real person? The information printed here does nothing to help. Also, I have only about 15 photos on my phone and it will not allow more, why? Do you have anywhere I can go for real help?

How do I change my media sync options in my iPhone?
