How do I change my media sync options in my iPhone?

I'm frustrated too. I need step by step instructions...

Inside iTunes with your iPhone connected you should see the iPhone listed under "DEVICES". Click on the iPhone and you will now see various buttons across the top: Summary, Info, Apps, Music, Movies... Here you can untick the songs, movies, apps, etc you don't want sync'd to your iPhone. Make sure to hit "Sync" button at the bottom. This will clear space on your iPhone.

I have done unticking of everything but nothing gets changed! Each time 710MB are requested to upgrade! I think my photos are all screwed up on my IPhone and they use up 4GB of space! When I tick on photos, followed by an untick on photos, I get a popup from Itunes that asks to remove the photos but they NEVER get removed! Any Ideas here?

Not enough space is not enough space every situation is different

you can aways remove items by unticking before sync, give plenty of space then just add them back, if you try to add to much iTunes will tell you .....or get a larger capacity iPhone

oh and turn off auto sync in iTunes

Go to iTunes on PC/Mac and adjust what is set to sync, untick sufficient to give more space ,can you handle that.

You need to untick items you sync via iTunes and reduce the space used on the iPhone as in a videos etc etc

If you can do the update via itunes it does all the hard work unpacking the update and pumping the update to the device otherwise the device takes the strain requiring more space than you may have

Sorry. No "attitude" intended. Black/White text is difficult to communicate, sans facial expressions & body language, and to address succintly the problem that exists. I didn't want to simply restate the question but wanted to say that "deleting" stuff doesn't help me understand how to change media syncing on the iPhone. I appologize if it came across as "attitude"

Hi, I think I am following what you all have been saying but I have unticked all the catagories that could synch and I still get "Updating to iOS 7.1.1 requires at least 530 MB of free space on your iPhone. Please change your media sync options to make more storage available."

Clearly I must be missing something? I have serached through my settings on phone and shut off most apps and synching and on itunes have unclicked the photo and music synch too. Help!

Did you try syncing your iPhone after unchecking all the items? I know for me all I had to do was uncheck my music, sync my phone, then update it after I had synced it.Then I checked my music and resynced my phone so I had the music on there.

Can someone explain exactly WHERE you do this unticking? I totally get you have to untick stuff, but where and how. On your phone, in your itunes on the pc/mac? Just a quick step by step would be helpful. thanks

I get the whole unticking thing... however, iTunes still says I need to free up more space. Says I need at least 770MB. iTunes also says that I have 8.5GB free - so, there should be plenty of space, right?

Any thoughts on why 770MB won't fit into 8.5GB of space? I'm stumped...

Will all the consistent response of the same error happening - mind included and I too have unticked, synced, sang and romanced my iPhone, it's still hungry for space that is available, Im starting to think this might be a Apple software bug, and better to skip the update till they fix it.
