Hmm, that's a shame.
You could try one thing before you go down the recovery route.
Boot from the Windows installer/repair disc and when the installation screen arrives do a shift + F10 and a command prompt window will open.
In that window type
bootrec /fixmbr and press enter, then type
bootrec /fixboot and press enter. Both of these should report that they ran ok.
Then type
bootrec /rebuildbcd and hit enter.
During this one the drive will be scanned for Windows operating systems. It should find one and then ask you if you would like to add that to the boot menu. Answer Y.
If no Windows OS is found I think we could be at the end of the road, although googling any error messages might be a good idea.
The only tool I've ever used for recovery (mostly for partitions but it can recover files with photorec and/or the list files option) is the free tool testdisk which is availalble here
