Damaged iPad (retina) repair/replace UK help

Hi everyone,

Ipad decided to fall off my JBL docking station today and the screen is completely smashed and a dent in the back of it.

Appears to turn on but half the screen is distorted etc. I would hazard a guess its not something that could be fixed but replaced.

I stupidly forgot to put applecare on it and wondered if anyone in the UK has had to pay for a replacement and how much it would cost?

I'm guessing it's going to be a case of buying one full price?

Many thanks for any info,

Ben

You would have to pay for an out of warranty ipad, I'm not to certain what the price would be, but I doubt it would be full price.

Thanks Razmee.

Hopefully not full price this time of year, not that any time is a good time to break an ipad.

There is something on the service center which indicates a price of £256 but says not for all types of damages. My ipad is in one piece but the screen is heavily damaged and peeling off slightly.

Fingers crossed, i'll pop to the apple store tommorow.

Out-of-Warranty Service

If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)

iPad model Out-of-Warranty Service Fee

iPad mini $219

iPad 3rd, 4th generation $299

iPad 2, iPad $249

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.

Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. See http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

Thanks for everyones help.

I really do appreciate you guys taking your time out to answer my question.

I ended up speaking with apple web chat and they advised it would cost no more than £256 to repair or replace. Assuming they wont replace it with an Air but hey, cant have everything 🙂

Its in 1 piece so although a fair bit of damage, the fact it turns on and off and the sound and home button are ok should just be a replacement.

Only problem is no appointments at my store for a few days.

Anyways, thanks again and enjoy the upcoming holidays.

dropped my ipad 4 last week and it hit my tiled fllor face down, it was safe to say it didnt look to pretty after the fall, the ipad screen had shattered and soft of spiderweb cracked throught the whole screen.

un believablly the ipad was still usable other than splinters in your fingers.

So i contact apple and bring the device into one of there many retail stores for a visit with a genius and the genius tells me it will cost £249 and they will swap it with a new one.

i ask the guy what about all my data to which he replied "if you havent done a recent backup then all your data will be lost"

so i asked him if they can back it up for me and tranfer the back up to the new one and he said "no sorry we are only allowed to exchange them, we are not allowed to transfer backups"

so i told the apple genius not to worry about it and i will take my ipad home with me and do a back up.

anyway i get home and just decide to search google to see if my ipad can be repaired rather than replaced and found a company in the uk called Apple Repair Centre so i give them a call and they said they can replace the screen with an original ipad screen for £75.

so i ordered the repair and sent off my ipad to apple repair centre, 24 hours later i had my ipad back with a brand new fully functioning screen, you cant even tell it has been repaired.

i know who i will be using if i drop my ipad again.

one happy ipad user 😁
