How do I send an image to the background (behind text) in latest update of Pages?

Pages 5 combines the Section Master and Background Object properties, now called just Section Master. Then they moved the Section Master control from the Format Menu to the Arrange Menu.

Of course, the object must be Floating, now called Stay with Page, as opposed to Inline, now called Move with Text.

I would like to sugust a few extra steps.

Menu > Arrange > Section Masters > Move Objects to Section Master

This puts the same image in the same area on every page of my document.

However I am working on one image on one page.

To stop the image from appearing on every page these steps are needed:

FIRST Create a Section Break before and after the image.

Menu > Insert > Section Break

SECOND Menu > Arrange > Section Masters > Move Objects to Section Master

Now the image does not appear on every page of my document.

Pages does not allow a section break in the middle of a document page. The section break insists on ending the page like a page break. Start the Section Break at the end of the previous page.

Work within the one page section to finish that page.

Some things I don't understand about Pages:

It appears the following options that appear with a right click on an image

do not work. (They are grayed out) :

“Bring to Front”

“Send to Back”

They do not work with either of the following selected:

“Stay on Page” and/or “Move with Text”

These also don’t work. (They are grayed out)

They are found in the drop down menu: (Menu > Arrange)

“Bring Forward”

“Bring to Front”

“Send Backward”

“Send to Back"

Why are these options grayed out?

When are they available?

What must I do for them not to be grayed out?

How are they used?

My opinion:

Sending an image to the “Front” or “Back” of text or other images should be a simple thing to do.

And it should make no difference whether the image “Stays on Page” or “Moves with Text”

Of course a Section makes a new page, it divides a document into chapters. That happens between pages.

Floating objects can be moved back and forth but not below the default text set by the margins,

To have the options work they have to be applicable. eg To Move back or forth there must be two or more floating objects.

Stays in Page or Moves with Text are actually in the text and therefore have nowhere to go. Except as floating objects divorced from the text.

i feel exactly the same way and find it so confusing. I'm looking to do this for the simple option of wanting to put a border on some of my sons school work...what a nightmare to ask for a simple request. Lisa xx

I just updated and I'm having the same issue..

I can't make one image move to the background for just ONE page. The Section Master moves it to the background, but to every new page. It's annoying..

clickat the end of the first page > Menu > Insert > Section Break > click in the 2nd page > Toolbar > Document > Section > Headers & Footers > uncheck Match previous section

Delete the object from the Section Master in the 2nd page, if necessary.

Graphics intensive documents are sometimes better done in Page Layout mode, and as a practical matter this means Pages '09. Without the Text Layer, you are free to move any object to any depth in a stack of layers.

I have only just bought Pages, to use to create a sales/product document for our business. I have MS Word, but it's a very old version. In Word doing this is So simple and works every time. If this app is supposed to be simple and easy to use *** is going on with this feature?

Here is what I did:

I placed a photo in my document and manipulated it to the way I wanted it. I then moved to the Inspector to send it to the background so I can have the text over the top, all the buttons to do this are 'shaded' and unavailable.

The only way I have been able to get a fix (70%) is to set the Text Wrap to 'None'. However this is just a "work around" and manipulating the text after this is annoying.

Come on Apple this is a feature I would expect to be as easy to use as MS Word as Pages looks so good for creating beautiful graphical documents!

So far I'm very underwhelmed...

Have the same problem...I can't believe how ******* stupid Pages is... this is such a simple thing to do why did they make it so complicated...
