I need to replace the battery, which is not holding a charge very long, and charges only ~40%. I'll bring it to an Apple dealer to do that. Since Apple charges $19/hr to ask a question online ⚠ I just need to know how long I'll need to leave it at the shop, and how much the cost of battery + service will be. (My AppleCare ran out.) Please advise what to expect. I rely on it constantly for work.

Make an appointment, and ask how long to change a battery, and if they can do it when you bring it in, it takes about a half hour or so. You can get a solid price when you call as they do this all day long.
I think the whole thing costs (Guesimate) $120-$140

Your battery should cost $79-$129 if you bring it to the apple store.
If you are lucky, Apple will be able to bring you a replacement battery on the spot, but if they are out of stock, they might keep your computer for 1-3 days.
