Do I really only have 41.71 Gigs of Storage left on my iMac

My storage in" about this mac states."

41.71 GB free out of 499.25

Audio 45.28 GB Movies 6.09 GB Photos 6.7 GB Apps 8.02GB Backups zeroKB

Other 391.46GB

Also, i deleted a lot of stuff in order to actually free up sapce, have down disk utility stuff many times, i do that because when i used to have Windows i used to defrag alot in order for it to work properly..old habits die hard.

so this other, lets say i downloaded 80GB of something...would it replace the other with downloaded data that i can see and use.

Or do I really only have 41.71 GB of space left.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), iOS 5.1

well i never said he was selling but through this link he gave me

the only thing to help are non apple software products.

it's inane to come to an apple support group and a level 10 guy is flogging non apple software that the apple people say could end my warranty..

of course he doesn't seem to like apple people and he knows better ..he ridiculed the genius bar

old toad like i said to the other guy. i only used mac clean as a generalization of the non apple productsKappy said is better to use than apple genius bar people, which according to Kappy are not to be trusted.

yes this is pretty decent advice thank you..

i mentioned i phoned into apple care and found out what is mostly happening.

i just think it is inane to offer non apple supported software on this site , that apple warns you if it screws up your imac your on your own...

and once again i think Kappy owes apple genius bar peoiple an apology...

The genius bar has people with many levels of skill, they're not all geniuses.

But you'll be meeting them when you take your Mac to them, so you'll see.

No software you install on your Mac will affect your warranty status with Apple. As the warranty is purely a hardware-based warranty.

so like if my computer is not working properly and i take it in and they say well you used this mac sweeper clean up crap and your files are corrupted and we can't do anything except erase and start over you loose everything...

but if you did not do anything that stupid and your computer is working not up to par...they will try to save your stuff..

under warranty they do try to keep you happy if you follow the rules..

like today, the guy told me i did not need to purchase any non apple software to clean up the other stuff..

he took me in and showed me that a lot is just duplicated triplicated files from useing smart converter.

the computer doesn't recognize the converted FLAC stuff as music and just considers it other.

so my task is to see what still works after i delete certain triplicated music files.

If you do not have a backup of your data you will lose it eventually anyway, if you do have a backup you won't lose anything.

Your choice.

and maybe i owe Kappy an apology.

I just don't know . If you talk to him , mention i i am thinking about it.

I'm in a thread about outside software causing problems for iMacs.

and well....can you blame me for being cautious.

I used to get and still from time to time see that dreaded mac clean SWIFFER lol...

I almost bought it.

I used to get that phone marketing scam about my PC and it has a virus and they can fix it.

I tell them i don;t own a computer and only use the one at the library.

it seems to have worked...the clean your home vents stopped after i told them i live in an apartment.

you have to say this every time they call from India...
