I had the same problem with many new albums I had tried to put on my Iphone. I have just fixed it.

I think the problem came about because the folder the music was stored in was read-only and I tried to change some the infomation in the 'get info' tab.

So I removed the music from my Iphone and Itunes and then readded it to both.

All tracks now available. : )

This happened to me because I was trying to sync more music than my iPhone 4S could hold.

On my Mac, I went to File -> Devices -> Transfer Purchases from my iPhone.

I did not expect this to work but had bought music on my iPhone that needed to be added to my iTunes anyway. Turns out, it ended up syncing all of my music that was greyed out and had the little stop button next to it on my Recently Added playlist. Hope this helps y'all!

Hey all.

New to this so unsure on whether my post is in the correct place. I was struggling with this issue for AGES! It happened after I tried to remove some music from my iPhone and all of a sudden loads of my music had the dreaded stop sign next to it. I tried everything from reinstalling the software, removing all the music, even going so far as to compeltely reinstall itunes. None of it worked. However after an appointment at the genius bar this morning I appear to have fixed the problem.

Here is a link which the guy used to fix mine. Good luck!.

I had this problem in 2014 with my iPhone 6. I couldn't figure out why my songs weren't downloading to my phone. I would plug it in, iTunes would jump quickly past the "sync music" section of the sync, and then say finished. My songs would show up on my phone but were greyed out with stop buttons next to them, just like above. I swore it was a problem with iTunes Match, but I had never signed up for that service. It wasn't until I was about to head out the door to the Apple store that I figured out the fix.

My iPhone continued to sync even though it said it had finished. A small sync icon was moving on my phone and in the sidebar of my iTunes, but the status bar thingy at the top of iTunes said my phone had stopped syncing even though it hadn't.. so weird. It must be the result of some iTunes update. So DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR IPHONE UNTIL IT IS DONE SYNCING. I continued to check my iPhone and the songs slowly started to download to my phone. This was the same case with music videos, tv shows, and movies -- it just took longer to finish syncing.

So iTunes must recognize all the music it wants to sync, puts the names on the iPhone, finishes the formal sync on iTunes, and then downloads all the content afterward. I was pulling the plug too early and as a result I thought it had finished syncing but it hadn't. It isn't some glitch, it's just syncing! Don't be fooled!

I read all of your answers...

Then I tried this and it worked!

I removed all of the music with iTunes by unsyncing all of my music.

Then I synced my music again.

Et voila, all of the music was there!

Even I could not believe it.

I can't delete songs that were a gift though. But thats a minor problem that i don't mind anymore :-), will fix that later..

This will solve your problem.

1. Plug in your phone

2. Open iTunes

3. Under <Your Phone Name>, click on Music. This step is critical, if you do not do this and you click "Sync" it may not Sync your music files.

4. You will find "Sync Music" Greyed out. Click in the check box of "Sync Music"

5. It will prompt and ask if you want to delete files and re-sync with iTunes, click yes

6. Click Apply

Check your iphone music. Your songs should all be downloading/downloaded.
