How do I send large .pdf files to iPad Air?

I have iPad Air, iTunes 11.1.3 on MBP '11 mavericks.

and I also have a (very?) large pdf file, about 250mb large, that I want to open in iBooks. I tried sending it to my own gmail, but that has a 25mb limit.

I tried uploading to google drive, but upon downloading to iPad, Safari crashes.

I do not want to download any applications. How would I succeed in sending this file to my Air without any problems?

Some websites out there says use the books feature on iTunes but I only have audiobooks (I have checked preferences). I guess those pages are just not updated.

I know you don't want to download applications, but you might see if Dropbox would work for you.

Or, do you sync your iPad to your mac? If so use iTunes to sync it onto your iPad. You can use a free PDF reader, or maybe the one you have has data transfer options. Or you can get the free iBooks to use to open and view the PDF, and use the data transfer/sync options via iTunes.

I have similar problems accessing ANY large pdfs on-line from either my iPhone 5s or my iPad Air using either TMobile data or wifi.

In all these cases, the pdfs opened fine on my old iPhone 4s. Memory is also not the issue, each device has GBs or 10s of GBs to spare. And the problem is not with any single site, either.

Frankly tethering my iOS devices to a laptop sounds like putting them on life support.

I want to pull the plug. I want my pdfs wirelessly on my iOS devices without browsers crashing. Is there a memory setting somewhere that I can change? One that might keep my iPhone 5s or iPad Air from having a nervous breakdown? I've tried Chrome, too. No difference there. Seems like PATHETIC hardware issue, but if someone has a browser fix or an alternate non-crashing browser, I'm all ears.
