I can't close a book I opened with the kindle app.

Tap in the center of the screen.

A menu bar should appear at the top of the screen.

Tap on the 3 horizontal bars in the upper left corner

You will see a list of actions.

Tap on "Library"

Select a new book to read.

Have you tried double-clicking on the Home key and then swiping up on the Kindle app thumbnail to close the app completely?

Also, have you tried signing out of the iTunes & App Store and then back in: Settings>iTunes & App Store>click on your Apple ID>sign out, then sign back in.

Hi Galen,

You can do a Force Quit of the Kindle App by clicking on the Apple and then selecting the Force Quit option or by pressing the Option+Command+Esc keys. Once the Force Quit window comes up, select Kindle, and then click on the Force Quit option.

Oh, so sorry. Those directions were for a Mac.....my bad!

So, on your iPad, have you pressed the Home key twice and swiped up on the Kindle App? If you have several apps open, you may need to swipe to the left to find the open app. Once you find it, swipe up to close the app.

OK, so when you tap at the top of the screen, does the toolbar with the Home icon come up? If so, then you just click on that Home icon and that will take you back to the Home screen where all of your books are listed.

Is that what you are asking, or am I misunderstanding your issue?

I have the same problem where I cannot close a book or get back to my library. My menu is no longer popping up. I have done a restart of my iPad mini and it makes no difference.
