iTunes MP3 to MP3 CD ????

Hi, just recently i purchased a 3 CD boxed set from HMV i put each of them in turn into my Mac Book Pros CD/DVD drive and iTunes copied them to my hard drive and i can see all three CD Albums in iTunes 🙂

I then decided i would like to put them all onto ONE CD in MP3 format for playing on my cars MP3/Radio.

I then tried to make a Playlist from the 3 cd's listed in iTunes, hoping i would then be able to keep the 3 cd's seperate from each other, in seperate folders on the final MP3 CD, but whatever i tried to do i could not, i could only get one long list of tracks.

Back to square one.

I then double tapped on one of the files, one of the options was reveal in finder 🙂 i was further very pleased when i saw they were already in MP3 format on my Hard Drive, albeit in a deep folder nest in the iTunes folder, so i copied the folders containing all 3 CD's into a far more accessible place on my desktop ! 🙂

I then used the DATA option of "BURN" to burn these three folders full of MP3 files to a CD R

I then found i could listen to them on my Lap Top absolutely fine.

BUT sadly when i tried it in my Sony MP3 HiFi CD Player there was no sound, although the display showed that it WAS playing !! 😟

I am now a ****** site more confused than ever.

It looks as if "BURN" used the UDF format to burn the CD, is that CORRECT ??

You'll have to tell us what format Burn used for the CD (I presume you mean the third party application called "Burn" and not Apple's burning feature). What did you have it set to?

Is this Sony player the same one as used in your car?

I would think if the mp3 was playing then the player is recognizing the files on the player fine, something is wrong with your player sound output.

Hiya Friend, i am using the Burn app from Sourceforge

I didnt manually set the recording Format to anything i just assumed the Default setting would be OK, but it looks as if it is UDF format

My Home Hifi is Sony, and the sound output is perfectly ok with an Audio CD i just tried.

i have a Vauxhall Meriva with a standard MP3/Radio fitted. i havent tried it in the car yet !

I hope that helps ?, i cannot find anywhere what the Format should be, assuming UDF is wrong !

Format should in theory be specified by your car's player manual, but they may not get that detailed. There is no "standard".

Burn has a place where you can specify format. I have an older copy (because I use a 12 year old computer) and on mine you can drag down a menu to say "Mac + PC".

For some reason ISO3660 or something like that comes to mind. Whatever looks most Windows-ish because pretty much everybody assumes you're doing this on a PC.

Timmy, Start over and do as follows:

Put the tracks into an iTunes playlist. Enable the Kind column in that playlist, so you can validate that the Kind for each track is "MPEG audio file." If anything is of a different format, stop and post back here.

With the playlist still open, use the command File > Burn Playlist to Disc. When the dialog comes up, set "Disc Format" to "MP3 CD."

Burn the disc, and put it in your car.

OK buddy thanks for that, yeah i know i can do it that way and i do not doubt it WILL work OK, thanks.

But as regards using iTunes to burn the CD tracks, i really wanted to have 3 seperate Folders on the MP3 CD it seems this cannot be done with iTunes. am i right ?

This the only reason i was looking to using a BURN program outside of iTunes.

I am going to bed very soon, so will tackle this again in the morning, thanks ed2345

Tim,

Glad it helped. Enjoy the music!

although i do have a view of all the three Albums listed seperatly, i BURNed it to a CD and as expected i got all of the tracks, all at the same ROOT level, without a folder in sight ! 😟

PS. However it does play OK 🙂, which is a vast improvement over my previous binned attempt with "BURN"

View as List in the dropdown at top right then click on the Album column header to sort by Album.

Because the files are not MP3.

You will need to create MP3 files before you can burn an MP3 CD.

When you burn the CD, select MP3 CD.This will burn only files that are already MP3 files.

If you select DataCD, it will burn the files as they are, regardless of format.

"View as List in the dropdown at top right then click on the Album column header to sort by Album."

Chris CA, ok i can understand what you say about selecting Album at the top of the various columns, the trouble with that is, all three of the albums have the same Title, the 3 cd's were in a boxed set, and sespite being LABELed 1, 2 and 3 iTunes see's them as all being the same name, so nothing happens when i click on column header "album" !!!
