Can iPhone ring when locked?

My phone won't ring when locked. Can this be changed? Settings/ Do Not Disturb only gives me two choices under the "Silence" heading: "Always", or "Only while iPhone is locked". I am unable to remove it. Is it possible to elect neither?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

Honestly, I really don't understand the whole thing. When it wasn't ringing, the DND was set to manual and lock was set to 1 minute. I assume manual is is off? or do I need to set it to automatic? `

If eeither "Manual" nor "Schedule" are enabled , DND is turned on, not off. If you have either one of those enabled, DND will be on at some time. If you have it set to Manual. DND will be on until you turn it off. Scheduled means DND will be turned on according to the schedule you set.

If you want DND turned off, make sure that BOTH Manual and Scheduled are turned off.

Unlock the phone. Look in the status bar. Do you see a crescent moon? If you do go to Settings/Do Not Disturb, turn off Manual and turn off Automatic. Lock the phone. It will ring on incoming calls. If it doesn't either your iOS image is seriously damaged or your phone has a hardware problem. You can try restoring iOS, or take it to an Apple store for diagnosis.

Never lock is fine, unless your phone is stolen while it is unlocked. Then you will have very serious consequences to deal with. But it's a workaround for something that should not be happening. Fix the underlying problem.

You just said what everyone struggling with this issue thinks when they read some of these responses.

I'd like someone who still has this issue to try this.

Settings -> Do Not Disturb -> Allow Calls From:

Set this to "Everyone"

Also turn "Repeated Calls" on.

Just got my wife's Iphone 6 ringing and playing notifications when locked.

I agree with the post that locking puts the phone into DND. Maybe by design, maybe a glitch..idk.

Going back to my Android phone now.... it's more fun, more intuitive, and easier to use.

I have the same problem, I constantly miss calls, this just started recently. One forum suggested turning off the automatic locking of the phone, this seems to be working. Fortunately, I have no need to lock the phone and don't use a passcode anyway!

Apple dropped the ball on this one, the phone should ALWAYS ring by default!

My wife as a ZTE phone and we intentionally setup a Do Not Disturb schedule to avoid random 1:00 AM wrong numbers.

By default, the phone DOES always ring. If your phone does not ring when it is locked, then either you have the mute switch engaged, Do Not Disturb enabled or there is something wrong with your phone. I have a passcode enabled on my phone and it auto locks after one minute. It rings just fine in that state.

Wow! You are impressively unhelpful. I have already mentioned that my phone falls under the same circumstances as listed above in the other 50+ comments. DND is not on, the switch is not flipped and as much as I understand the concept of user error occurring more often than not this is clearly a widespread problem with the phones and not the many people on this thread experiencing the same problem. If you aren't going to be helpful please go troll people on Facebook instead of tech support forums.

You can't count very well. 50+ ?! There are only 45 posts, including this one. If you actually READ the posts in this thread, there are a total of 5 people (6 including you) who have a similar problem, and one of them found a solution. Out of 800 million iPhone users. So user error is the most likely cause. What troubleshooting have you done? Reset? Restore from backup? Restore as new?
