Deleting purchased books

I've purchased a number of books from the Itunes store but have no interest in having them anymore. I have deleted them from my devices, but when I go into the Itunes store they are still available for me to redownload. There are a lot of them that just take up space on the list and I would like to remove them. Is this possible?
