D-Link DCS 900W - how to get it to work on my Mac?

i'm new to network cameras - but i need to set up a surveillance system in my home to monitor my home while i am away. i recently returned a D-Link DCS 950G because this latest model didn't work with any other browser but IE6. Now i've got a DCS 900W, and ancient model which took me 2 days of frantic phone calls to locate, because this model appears in the list for both Evocam and Security Spy.

i am none the wiser on how to get it set up - i think i need to initialise it right (duh?)? and i am drowning in the sea!

can any hero help this dumb maiden set up the network cameras from step one to hey presto?

Hi There have you been to dlinks website they have a lot of info on setting up there, mostly for pc's though. Anyway connnect your cam to your computers ethernet using a cross over cable make sure the cam has power and the setting to lan or wlan in your browser type in http://192.162.0.20:80 and you should see the cam and programming screen. for more info check out the following link http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=365

hope this helps. I am trying to connect wirelessley to an airport extreme and its a pain.

hi thanks for the link. i've managed to set it up and run it on my mac with security spy by benbird, but i've realised that using security spy i need to have my mac on all the time... then why buy a network camera with a built-in server? why not buy a cheap webcam instead?

i need to set it up and run it without my mac on... that's proving to be a huge headache... maybe i should go get a pc? (ugh - horrors! i'm doing my best not to get there!)

of course it'll be good too if i could get it to run plus access it remotely... i'm going away and i want to know what's going on with the hired help... and if someone is abusing my dogs while i'm away...

i'm a little crazy now... i've got 4 macs..

1) problems setting up camera:

i've tried to set up my camera to work with two of my macs but could only get it running on the powermac g4 (adsl modem Aztech305). i've tried to get it going on my iBook g3 (Linksys routerWRT54G) but to no avail. i tried the same things but still nothing happened in the iBook. i couldn't logon to the IP of my camera to set it up on the iBook but the powermac g4 was ok. my g4 has an adsl modem and uses a different internet service provider from my iBook which is hooked up to a wireless router using a network shared by my 2 other macs. i was hoping to get the camera running wirelessly (hence the 900W).

2) with the camera set up & running on the powermac g4, i can view everything on the g4 of course, buti can't view it remotely from my other macs.

i think i am doing something wrong here but i don't know what?
