able to download older version of Pandora onto iPod touch?

Hello.

I bought this used iPod Touch (version 3.1.3). When I first got it, I was really frustrated because the only reason I bought the thing was to play Pandora for my work, yet when I tried to download Pandora it said that I needed iOS 5. I tried to update my software but it won't go any further.

My friend was able to get the option to download an earlier version of Pandora and it worked. Today there was an issue and Pandora said there was something keeping it from playing and I should try to reboot the app. So I tried restarting the iPod AND the app, and finally was going to delete and reinstall Pandora. I deleted it but now I can't reinstall it!
I googled and searched these forums and couldn't find an answer. I did find this article: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2013/09/17/app-store-legacy-app-downloads/ saying that Apple would now let you download older versions of apps. Yet I am not able to on my iPod.

Someone please help! How do I get my iPod to offer me the older version of Pandora? Is there another way I can reinstall this onto the iPod? I need help, this is a work issue.

Thank you for your time.

When you went to the App Store, or to iTunes, did you go to your Purchased screen or tab on the computer? It seems you went directly to the App Store to download. The instructions state:

To download an earlier version of an app, follow these steps:

  1. Open the App Store or Mac App Store.
  2. Go to the Purchased screen on your iOS device or the Purchases tab on your Mac.
  3. Find the app and choose Download. You'll see a message telling you if a compatible version is available. Tap Confirm to install this version.

Are you saying your iPod is on iOS 3.1.3? If that is the case, this previous version will not work. See this part of the support document I linked.

Here's what you need to download an earlier version of an app:

  • iOS 4.3.3 or later on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch My emphasis
  • OS X Mountain Lion or later on your Mac

Thanks much. Yeah, it's just basically too old. I did "try" to follow the directions as best I could. On the ipod, there is no "purchased screen", and when I go to the Itunes store, I find the pandora apps for iphone and ipad, but none for the ipod. The purchased screen on the Mac (App Store) doesn't include the app, which makes sense, I just run Pandora from a browser. The only apps that show up are Streaming apps for pandora. Suppose I could try downloading one and seeing if it will then download to the ipod. Oh well. Hey, thanks for the effort though.

Yes, I did have the older version, but deleted it (long story). And the ipod will not update to the newer software, I get the "up to date" message. Of course, you probably meant update to some newer hardware!😁 It's just a shame that I have a perfectly working piece of hardware (electronically), but can't use it. I'd like to use Itunes, but I'm paying for Pandora, plus I've had it for a while and have customized "channels", and I'm too lazy to start over! Again, thanks for the help!

We're saying the same thing! I only deleted the app because I was instructed to delete the backups, to which was required to re-install the software. But the point is, yes, the device is not supported, and that's a shame because it's still electrically functional. Even if I wanted to use Itunes, that won't work either, because it crashes while opening. I can understand not supporting and keeping every copy of every app, but I would think Apple would at least support it's own stuff, otherwise, it seems as though Apple is just forcing you to buy a newer version of their hardware.

You have a nice day too!
