Wrong midi notes being played - bug

I'm using a midi bass in Logic X, and certain notes play the correct pitch when I pencil them in, but during playback they come out wrong. For example, I have a bass line going:

G - G - G C - B - F# E - D - B

In one octave the F# plays a lower D#, and with the line played in a higher octave the B plays a lower D#. So as of now two notes are being replaced by a lower D#. Lower in pitch to be clear. I saved and quit, reloaded and the same problem is happening. It happens with every bass pre-set.

I'm running Logic 10.0.3.

This is not likely to be a bug in Logic Pro X.... (If it is.. it has gone completely unreported by anyone else..but anything is posssible) but some kind of wierd setting you have changed, somewhere.. I suspect... or something else affecting playback...

What Software Intrument are you using to play back these notes?

Can you please take screenshots of the Arrange window (highlight the track/region in question) and also the Region inspector, fully expanded... with the Region selected so we can take a look/see...and finally, of the Event Editor, again for the region in question.... (You might want to take a look there and see if anything is being recorded by accident, like pitchbend...) and post them up here...

Cheers..

Hello and thanks for your reply. I took a couple of screenshots and I think they cover what you mentioned. I'm beginning to think this issue has something to do with the key limiter in the inspector area. I tried to change the parameter and Logic quit on me. I opened it up and tried again; this time it ignored my input and switched to B-1 B-1, and no longer plays any of the notes. This is in the first bass preset, but it happens with all of them.User uploaded file

Godpork

The B1 B1 key limit will certainly have an effect.... as you are seeing... Not sure why it is being set to that or why and how it is being changed to that.. Very odd indeed.

Erik,

See.. just when you think you have 'seen' everything.. Up comes a bug like this one!

Read your thread on LPH... totally baffling... and given probably 95% of my work is with midi tracks... I have never come across this one.. nor can i appear to be able to recreate it in any sense...

Have you had this issue with the latest version of LPX?

Latest version? Hmm, haven't had it since that thread, could be it was fixed in 10.0.4...? I mean, the file exhibiting the anomaly is there, for download and dissection.

Yes, only LP X, I never never ever encountered anything like this ("corrupted MIDI") with Logic 8 or 9, nor ("cough")in the previous century 😎😝 with Cubase 2, 3, 3.5 VST, 4.1 VST and 5 on Mac OS's 6.0.8 up to 9.2.2 ("cough"), that's why it 😼ed me too - MIDI is, computercodewise, one of the simplest protocols there is. Compared to, say, realtime audioprocessing.

Knock on wood, I haven't encountered it since I reported it last in that LPH thread - I wonder if it it was fixed in 10.0.4? I hope so.

Sorry Godpork but no... I cannot recreate it here and have never come across it myself..

The fact that Erik has seen it a couple of times using imported LP9 projects only I believe (Correct Erik?) but not for a while.. and you seem to be suffering from it rather more often.. with new projects crerated in LPX....is a bit of a mystery as to why that would be so... for you but not others in general.

Maybe it's time for a call to Apple themselves.....

Hi. I'm having exat same problem. Only, this is on notes played with keyb. on a track with Kontakt. A note played on A0, persist sounding on a completly differnt key. If I mouse the keab. in the editor, the right sound playes, but when touching the note, it is a different sound....!!???? I'm completly baffeld. I've been working on Logic in 14 years, and never encountered this.

Now, if I change the note(A0) in the event list, it dont relay to the keys assigned on the keyb...kinda random....!! REALLY strange.

I'm having the same problem. When I play my file back, all low G0 notes sound instead as G#1. When I click the recorded G0 notes in the MIDI editor, they play back as G#1 as well. However when I play the vertical keyboard to the left in the MIDI editor and hit the G0 key, it does sound correctly.

It recorded and played fine for a while, and then I changed the patch in my Kontact player and that's when it started, I think. But then I removed Kontact and just chose one of Apple's keyboard sounds and it still happened even with Kontact no longer part of my project at all. Now I can't get it to go back no matter what I do.
