Logic Pro X and Apple Intermediate Codec?

Hi, I am transitioning to Logic Pro X (from previous version) and find it will not open Apple Intermediate Codec movies. When I attempt to load an AIC movie I get this warning:

"Unsupported Movie Format

The movie file PhilsProject(AIC).mov cannot be played back in the native video engine. Please consider converting the movie using QuickTime Player 7 or similar tools to H.264 or other QuickTime Player X compatible formats."

This movie (and other AIC movies) will, however, open and play in Logic Pro 9, QuickTime 7 (Pro), and Quicktime Player 10.

I like AIC because the quality is good but the files are not too big and not too taxing on the system for working with music.

As AIC is an "Apple" format, I can't understand why it would not be supported by Apple software. Also, I cannot find any information anywhere about Logic Pro X supported video codecs.

Are other Logic X users experiencing the same thing - or is my system acting up? Any insight on how to make this work is appreciated.

Thanks

Phil

Have you installed the latest Codec support package from Apple that was release on Oct 22nd 2013?

If I understand correctly both ML and now Mav do not support the older AIC by default but installing the updated codec support package addresses this issue...

Note: I am not sure if installing this package will open up support for AIC within Logic... as i don't use AIC files.. but given it adds support to other ProApps such as FCPX and it states it is for all Apps using QT... it has to be worth a try.....

Thanks for the link, Art Of Sound. I tried installing the Codec support package, but the installer found "No qualifying copies of Final Cut Pro, Motion or Compressor" and therefore would not install the package. I do have a registered copy of Final Cut 6 - but I guess it doesn't count.

Also - just to go back over this point - Logic Pro 9, QuickTime Pro 7 and QuickTime Player X all have no probleme with this file - on the same operating system.

So as an alternative... I wondering what HD video format is optimum for image quality, size and HD/CPU load?
