Outlook 2013 calendar sync to iphone not working
iPhone 5s, iOS 7
I'm surprised you've gotten it to work with iTunes 11.4.xx. I had to go back to 11.1.xx to get the syncing to work again.
But you're exactly correct -- a change of this magnitude is made blithely without either company sharing the information. That Apple insists we move information via their iCloud suggests that they're making money by reading that uploaded information, and selling it.
I agree that jimbob5941's post was not only well said, but a cause for optimism, sort of like detecting a heartbeat on an electrocardiogram during a resuscitation. My iTunes 11.3 is offering an upgrade to 11.4, presumably part of the iOS 8 release preparation. Is it overoptimistic to try USB sync again to see if it was fixed? Has anyone tried recently to see if this was fixed? Even if Apple never admitted there was a problem, will they announce that the problem was fixed*?
* If indeed it was fixed. jimbob5941's assumption that the problem is a fragility that is still there seems like a more likely an explanation.
Heck I don't know what's going on ... I just don't think it's an irrational expectation for me to think that two of the biggest companies in the world to keep us informed of their plans and decisions that impact us as their customers.
Please note I am running Outlook 2010 not 2013....
While I have a license for both versions.................. I intentionally chose the path of least resistance............
I installed 11.4 because I do want to upgrade my 5s to iOS 8 after some reasonable waiting period for the bugs to be resolved............
I've searched for an announcement to this effect and couldn't find one. Can you confirm how you know it's been dropped? Thanks!
I've also looked in the Help files and documentation. The information about sync Win PC with an iPhone through iTunes is so vague that it could be read both ways -- yes, you can still sync Win PC Outlook with iPhone through iOS and no, you can't. In reading this thread -- I'm still unclear whether it's yes or no. Thanks to anyone who can confirm whether this feature is gone or broken for a lot of people.
I was describing the Outlook - iOS sync to an expert last week who told me that he spent many hours on this for a client last month and got it to work, but it was very brittle and there was no simple fix. His conclusion was that the sync can work, but it is so brittle that it won't work in most cases and that it can stop working without notice.
So it is indeed a big mess. I'd say that Apple should be ashamed of this mess, but I don't know how much of the blame belongs to Microsoft. But both Apple and Microsoft should be shamed for not commenting on this situation publicly. The senior leadership at Google knows about this mess. If I were them, I'd make fun of Apple or Microsoft for this mess.
Do you mean the cable or wifi sync via iTunes or over the air with iCloud?
Cable and Wi-Fi sync via iTunes. NOT through iCloud.
I am not sure, I know that it was dropped on Macs, less sure about Windows machines though.
I meant USB sync still can work, but is brittle and typically doesn't work. iCloud sync works, but is very kludgy, as detailed at https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ca3191f4-2c1e-4b52-a563-177877 a89ee8/is-outlook-icloud-syncing-hopelessly-kludgy?forum=outlook
Apple sync systems are not 'brittle'. They either work correctly (as this did in the past) or they don't work because they have been deprecated. Which may be the case here.

This is the opposite of what an expert on Microsoft systems told me last week. He was able, after considerable effort, to get USB syncing working at least temporarily, with current versions, while many of us have not been able to get it to work for months. Maybe he's wrong, but we should at least consider the possibility that he's right.
This thread, of course, suffers from ascertainment bias in that people for whom USB syncing still works won't find this thread. We need other types of information to assess brittle versus broken. That's why I asked that expert.

We have different ideas of what constitutes 'working' then. To me that is not working in any sensible or deployable fashion. But then I don't work for Microsoft.
I got so fed up with the workarounds not working, so I took the leap and tried third party software. Of course, syncing Outlook through iTunes free is ideal as it doesn't cost anything. But what good is it if I'm spending all this time reading forums and trying your great suggestions. Decided to try AkrutoSync from www.akruto.com and it works! My favorite part is that it does not require iTunes, which always slows my computer.
Thanks for that, looks interesting. Post back in a while and let us know how it transpires 🙂
