Do a search for "bleeping computer mac rogue remover tool"

That tool is useless on any modern Mac. In fact, it won't even run... on a modern Mac, the Finder will complain that the app is damaged, and your only option is to drag it to the trash.

According to the site, that was nothing more than a tool to remove the MacDefender malware. It may have had some utility once upon a time, but MacDefender has been extinct for years.

This is definitely NOT an "adware removal tool," as you said it was. Nobody should attempt to download it for that purpose.

I simply stated that most of my experience is on Windows machines. And to clear it up I have used Clean My Mac on several MACS and have never had an issue.

That's rather like saying, "I've shot arrows straight up in the air and never had an issue." (In that case, you won't have an issue... until the arrow comes straight back down and embeds itself in your cranium.)

CleanMyMac is known to cause damage to the system, and even data loss in some situations. Just yesterday I was responding to someone whose system had become unable to start up after letting CleanMyMac do some "cleaning."

Further, Macs do not need this kind of "cleaning" at all, even if it were done flawlessly. See The myth of the dirty Mac.

(Fair disclosure: I may receive compensation from links to my sites, TheSafeMac.com and AdwareMedic.com.)

Maybe CleanMyMac does suck but I have yet to have an issue with it. After what you said I don't think I will be using again. What do you think about Onyx? I have used it and my system has run noticeably faster. I might have used it twice on my mac in 3 years. Everyone does not have a modern Mac. Half the Macs we repair are Os x 10.6.8. and can not be upgraded. I still get people with G4's so older tools come in handy.

Onyx is a utility whose time has passed. It was useful back on 10.2. It is not needed on a modern system, and 10.6.8 is plenty modern in these terms. Mac OS X maintains itself quite well, and you do not need to do any kind of maintenance unless you're running a VERY old version of Mac OS X.

Ah yes, it is very good at removing files - it even finds "unnecessary" system files and removes them.

If you have a smallish SSD, simply use a larger external drive to park your space hogging files on - a much safer practice.

IMHO, I hope you have the uninstall instructions handy when you need them - and you will.

PS: Are you affiliated with that company?

Language support for every country on the planet but the one in which I live not just in the OS but in individual third party apps.

I understand there are people that hate CleanMyMac.

I think it doesn't work as well as MacPaw claims or is harmful as it's detractors opine.

You can do it for free with this:

But since I got it as a bundle and I think that it is certainly worth the small price I paid to do it easily.

Those are not unnecessary files. Removing them has been known to cause problems, and they don't take up all that much space. Removing them and expecting to see a positive difference in the way your computer works is a lot like cleaning out your bellybutton lint and hoping it makes your pants fit better. This is simply one example of the many things that apps like CleanMyMac con unsuspecting folks into believing is useful, when it actually is not.

As an owner of an iMac, 13" Air and an 11" Air I can assure you they must not be very important, run like a fine swiss watch.

I see. And you have done a detailed, scientific comparison of the performance before and after removing those files?

Also, note that my exact words were that removing those files "has been known to" cause problems, not that it causes problems in every single case. If you got lucky, that's cool for you, but does not mean that everyone else will be good. Whether or not you have problems depends on things like what apps you're running.

Like I said, haters of this program really hate it.

There are some very good reasons for that, which you will find if you read this topic and others like it here. CleanMyMac is a scam, offering to do things that don't need doing for a price.
