I having been using Clean My Mac 2 for a few months and accepted the free upgrade to Clean My Mac 3. It works well for me and my son and I am happy with my purchase. Since it hasn't been very long, I will post again if there seems to be trouble. The upgrade has several new features and I am just getting around to trying them.

When I downloaded it I did so following the advice in an ebook called Take Control of Upgrading to Yosemite by Joe Kissel (pg 49). I bought that book because my upgrade to Yosemite did not go well, I wanted to "take control," or try to, because my computer was not working well after the upgrade. After running its tasks my computer worked better. I also used a product called Cocktail. That product also seemed to help. Both were recommended in the e-book. Sometimes cocktail has issues since I installed Clean My Mac 3 and I thought perhaps they were conflicting when I stumbled on this conversation.

Before I bought it, I spent a lot of time searching these forums and the web - searching through forums is for me an alarming time sink. There is a lot of disagreement. One feels the risks of taking one or another person's advice and judging without being able to test or understand quite what is happening. I dislike this feature of contemporary life. I am not a "power user" nor could I find the time or interest to become one. I am more than weary of devices that don't work quite right. Until recently my Apple devices were a welcome exception to the general crumminess of things - I have used Apple computers since I had a 512K in college. In the end, I bought the book above and decided to follow just one person's advice as a means of keeping things simple. I am glad I did, although i know problems will still occur. And there are just too many variables for me to control, especially given the amount of time it takes from things that interest me.

I appreciate that the more experienced users who have posted in this thread warn against using Clean My Mac and other third party utilities. As others have said one person's experience is not generalizable and I speak only for myself (and my very young son whose computer I maintain.) Perhaps my computer would have recovered performance on its own or a quick lesson from a power user would have worked better. I promise to post again if there is trouble. So far, Clean My Mac 3 works a treat and I am grateful for it. I hope my experience is useful to the OP.

No, not affiliated with any software maker, seller or repair company. Neither with MacPaw, who makes Clean My Mac nor with the other entities - not the publishers of Take Control of Upgrading to Yosemite, nor the developers of Cocktail nor the author of Take Control of Upgrading to Yosemite. My post was quite clear about the limits of my experience with this software.

I'm trying to use the Clean My Mac to Yosemite, but I'm having a problem is this: When I attempt to clean or delete any app it asks me to log in as adm machine . Then I enter the password and it comes back to me and request authentication for ever and gives an error saying that I did not authorize do the action . What might be going on? Adm am the machine , it never happened to me.

When I first upgraded to Yosemite that happened a lot but I didn't yet have Clean My Mac.

And then my mac stopped its frequent demands for authentication. I don't think Clean My Mac helped, I think it stopped long before I installed any third party apps - you can scroll up for more details of what I installed and why. I don't think *in my case* that Clean My Mac had anything to do with it.

It takes a certain amount of moxy to type Clean My Mac in this thread. I post this single data point because maybe that continuous asking for admin credentials is not related to Clean My Mac, which as you may have gleaned from the many fierce posts above is not recommended by some (maybe all I didn't count) of the most experienced mac users. You could uninstall Clean My Mac, check and see if those demands keep coming. That's what I would do.

This is a too comprehensive. It shows a certain lack of knowledge beneath an overly authoritative attitude.

Example: There are times when it is necessary to clear the NVRAM, and in such cases the benefit can be immediately apparent. To say that one should never clear it is like saying that one should never change a flat tire.

So I started using clean my mac. I haven't had any problems with it. I know alot of people here are against it and we should all do it manually etc etc. From my experience it has been really good. The only thing is, just don't delete old files without looking at what they are first. Clean my mac has been great for uninstalling as well. This is what I did in half an hour..

I always find it peculiar that the folks with lots and lots of points - which are awarded by other users for being helpful - advise against this app and others like it. Then every now and then he comes someone who has no points, and who has made one post only, and who has just registered on the forum. Why would someone register on the forum just to do that? I wonder...
