10.9.1 Mail spotlight search not working!!!!! APPLE HELP!!!!!!

After over a week of not working, mail search is functioning once more. I tried rebuilding my inbox, reindexing my hard drive, rebooting in between. Nothing worked. Today I rebooted to diable auto mount of /home and mail is now working. Go figure.

stupid question, but go into system preferences and then to spotlight and make sure "Mail and Messages" is checked in the list

force quit mail then restart computer optional(download cleanmymac2 then run it) go back on mail and if that doesn't work reply back to me

Go to system prefrences, spotlight. select privacy. add Mac HD. then unselect. wait a while, should solve the problem

this may not work forever but it did work for me:

Re-index your Smart Folders:

Just pop into the System preferences and open the spotlight option. In there, there should be a privacy tab.

This would be where you add any volumes for folders you don't want to be searchable. Open a Finder window, and drag and drop your main Macintosh HD here. This will wipe out the spotlight index already saved.

Then remove it from the list again (use the minus sign "-" at the bottom of the little window), and it'll start the indexing process over again. It can take a little while.

(I left my computer on for a couple of hours, when I tried the same search I'd unsuccessfully tried earlier, it worked perfectly).

Give it a go - may not work for everyone (or forever) but it was a reasonably easy fix and it worked for me.

Thanks. It worked for me. My Mail couldn't search, even if I knew the message was there. Thanks again !
