Freeze on softwareupdatelauncher
I've tried update to OSX Update 10.9.1, but it keep freezing when my computer rebooted.
What's going on here?
I can't find any similar history here.

ffried, worked for me too, thanks!
thanks, worked here too 🙂
That's right, ffried sugestion solve that issue, and yes this is a general issue. I suspect it's an update's bug: Somehow the softwareupdatelauncher starts before the system logging out and have not full system acces. So, the solution is LOG OUT and ENTER.
Good Luck !
Thanks, it worked too. I think it seems to very simple mistake when doing update.
I strongly suspect, it should be done by automatically(logout-enter) but it didn't.
Anyway it resolved!
Hey broady, your suggestion is very basic and general advice, so I expect it does not any help many other question as well.
Cheers.
Same problem here, logout+enter workaround worked. Thanks!
I was having the EXACT same problem. For me, just hitting "Return" on the grey softwareupdatelauncher screen started the installer, which correctly installed the update and then rebooted.
Thanks ffried.
Brody, if you can't help, then don't type.
Thanks to everyone for resolving this. I had the same problem and eventually resorted to the terminal command softwareupdate --install -r which successfully installs the update. If I see the SoftwareUpdateLauncher menu when the next update becomes available I will try the above recommendation and report back.
My "softwareupdatelauncer was freezing"
- Tried installing the standalone update (didnt sove it)
- And restartet mulitple times (didn't solve it)
- But after I was playing aroung in that grey "softwareupdatelauncher" screen... I hit "Enter" and suddenly it started updating...
Thanks for every help so for,, my version is now 10.9.1 after almost 10 failed attempts.
I did almost the same thing as the "Solutions Post",,, playing inside grey "softwareupdatelauncher". Hitting "Enter" did start the update process successfully...
Thanks man!!! That solved it
Thanks so much, ffried. Even at this late date, you still solved the problem. I was at wit's end and finally found this thread. Solved the problem in seconds. Really do appreciate it.🙂
ffried resolved for me.
It's absurd and nonsense procedure.
Thank you! I went to the Apple menu and selected logout. There was not dialogue window or anything but I just pressed enter and it started installing the 10.9.2 update.
Chiming in to say thank you ffried as well. This is the third day working the problem and Log Out, followed by Enter fixed it instantly. Now if only error 3194 would resolve this easily. . .
Bingo. Another one for ffried. Tried to run Mavericks 10.9.2 update from the app store, kept hanging, never completed the install. Your suggestion did the trick.
Thanks!
