Hopefully they rushed this out for the new Mac Pro and will fix it later. But if this is the case... old/new iMacs (Macs) will no longer be the fastest (or fast) to encode videos.

I don't see de-interlacing any more. Did a test to and changed an interlaced video to progressive... looks ok. I wonder if this is how we do it now.

Wonder if this is how we set fast-start now:

A few last things... using my x265 encoder, it uses all cores (you can set this in the x264 encoder to use all cores), but it still uses only one instance. Also... I have seen up to 3 instance show up in the destination folder. I'll check this one again to make sure. No more by-passing too.

I still get this in the Activity Monitor... goes away (all of them) when quitting Compressor.

If I trun this off the red one goes away.

@David, I must set aside some time to run some tests: straight export from FCPX; 4.07 with cluster; 4.1.

@halemmerich, What the grapevine has been saying is multiple instances requires a minimum of 6 cores. And that if you don't have at least a quad core with 8 virtual cores, you can't even get a single instance. So that would fit the Air, but I don't understand the iMacs unless they have the i5 CPU.

This is on my 2013 imac i7 3.5Ghz, 16GB RAM. I'm only allowed 1 instance and it has no effect compared to 0.

The cpu activity is the same either way. 4 at about 70%.

It took the same amount of time to compress either way. When I did have the one instance it mounted that shared volume while compressing, and it went away when completed.

With 4.0.7 I was allowed 8 instances and it would peg all 8 at 100%. Much faster.

By default, it runs one instances of itself. However, this requires an i5 or i7 processor with a minimum of six cores. The rule of thumb is: set the number of instances to two LESS than the total number of cores on your system. If this is grayed out, or only allows you to set 1 instance, it is because you don't have enough cores.

So this nixes the new Mac Pro quad-core.
