iTunes stuck processing file

Has anyone else had this issue recently? I am using the latest iTunes x64 on Windows 7 x64. When app updates download from the iTunes store, it freezes when it gets to where it says "processing file" and never completes. I tried using Ccleaner to clean empty junk off my compluter, ran a full disk defrag, and tried running iTunes as anmid, with the antivirus turned off, and the firewall turned off, but alas, it still keeps doing the same thing. I tried chancing allowing multiple downloads at once or only 1 at a time. I tried pausing and unpausing. I tried clearing the store cache. I keep having to cntrl+alt+delete and kill iTunes. No hardware or software has been installed lately to chance anything on my PC. Yet, it keeps doing the same thing. I plan on trying to reinstall iTunes and see if that helps. Anyone else noticing the same issue? Any solutions known that work?

I'm getting the same issue when updating apps on my MacBook Pro running 10.9.1 and iTunes 11.1.3. I have 150+ apps to update and it's tedious the way it's handling them. This problem has been happening the past couple days, but it does sound like a problem Apples end rather than users end.

I guess a lot of people are getting stuff downloaded onto their devices ready to give away at Christmas, at least that's all I can think of. Hopefully it won't be too long until it's back to normal. Kinda ***** having to force quit as only a temporary fix.

Here, here!

I have to say that I have been so disappointed with Apple the last 6 months that I’m holding off purchasing an iPad unless some of this stuff get s fixed in the next few weeks.

The new iOS7 is so buggy, iTunes is unreliable and it seems to be getting worse.

Giving some very serious consideration to Samsung … sacrilegious? Possibly, but perhaps Apple’s the next on the chopping block [Blackberry].

I tried each of these and none worked for more than a few downloads. I also tried reinstalling iTunes, but that did not help. In the end I had to resort to updating 2-3 at a time manually, after which it would freeze, then I exited (using Task Manager to close iTunes), cleared the Media folder as suggested, then reopened and started again. I had about 45 apps to update so this was slooooooow! However, I took advantage of the opportunity to delete a bunch of apps I no longer use or use infrequently. Since a tone of apps seem to be updated weekly this will not buy me a lot but hopefully Apple will fix the issue before I need to do it again.

I started having this problem about 4 days ago. I have not changed or updated anything before this. I download TV shows pretty much everyday and since 4 days ago none will download. They get to the processing file at the end and will never finish. The file will only take 6-9 mins to download complete episode but then processing file will continue until you re-boot. I cannot even force quit itunes when it gets to this stage only re-boot. This is clearly an apple issue as there are so many versions of this issue. None of the above suggested things do anything to resolve on my MAC Airbook.

I've finally come up with a workaround that worked for me. Its an extension of what ParrishCo suggested:

1. Download a copy of the latest iTunes

2. Go to your Music -> iTunes folder

3. Move all files (including folders) except "iTunes Media" to a temporary folder

4. Uninstall iTunes

5. Re-install iTunes

6. Run iTunes and sign-in to your account (iTunes -> Store -> Sign In)

7. Exit iTunes

8. Go back to your temporary folder where you copied the previous iTunes files and folders.

9. Copy and replace the following files in the current Music -> iTunes folder:

a. iTunes Library Extras.itdb

b. iTunes Library Genius.itdb

c. iTunes Library.itl

10. Restart iTunes

After these steps, I was able to successfully download app updates.

If you're already using the latest version of iTunes, I have a feeling this will also work without having to uninstall and re-install iTunes.

This will not fix the problem for new music downloads as the issue is at the Apple end. Perhaps their servers are overloaded? Whatever the answer, Apple is silent here. Very frustrating.

I too have a song stuck at 'processing 100%' -

I have tried most of the ideas mentioned here - when I try to download a new song it just gets stuck again...

User fixes are just changing which song gets stuck, not fixing the issue.

Dear Paul,

This is in response to your posting this. I have had this issue now also. However, the major issue is i purchased an alienware. I have a 110 down/ 30 up connection that averages at 60 mb during the day. Its taking two to three hours to download movies. You want a fix, call IOS support and demand to speak with a senior advisor. Have the senior advisor do what is called a request for technical assistance form for Software Support Engineering. No lower level advisor can deny you support if you ask for an exemption for itunes download being problematic as its a revenue generator,

Call 1-800-my-apple and ask the call director for a senior advisor.
