Q: Keynote presentations are missing images

Running Mavericks 10.9 Build 13A603 on MacBook Air and Keynote 6.0.1 (1486).

I love keynote and have used it since day one it was available. Now I hate it. Not because of the toolbar changes (I’m fine with that) but because all my files are messed up.

I have about 100 presentations that are all made with the latest version or converted to the latest file format. They are stored locally in a folder that is shared with others (via google drive). We have used this setup for ages flawlessly. Now, a random selection of the dropped images that are in the presentations are missing. When you open the presentations they are scattered with ?-marks where there used to be beautiful presentation content.

If you create a new presentation the same happens. If you open it on another machine, the ?-marks are everywhere. If you open it on your own machine its messed up.

I assume this has to do with some change in the way Keynote stores it’s dropped images. Anyone else suffering from ?-mark problems? It’s so bad that we are actually using Powerpoint right now!

    Dear Daniel

I cannot help but I can give moral support. I have also been a power user of Keynote since version 1.

With Keynote 6, my still pictures are ok as far as I checked but hundreds of viedo clips are either not found or are found but cannot be played. Some play but change orientation back to their original one at start of play.

I have started fixing some of it but if I want to fix it all it will take several hundreds of hours of work.

Apple is promising to fix these problems with Keynote updates within 6 months.

First, that is too late and second, I am afraid they count on everybody having arranged their things by then so they do not have to do anything.

Staying with Keynote 5 on Mavericks is not an option either because it crashes regularly and frequently.

This makes a bad impression already if you are holding a talk with the laptop in front of you when you can restart and find the place where it crashed to continue.

It abruptly end definitely ends your talk if you had to hand the laptop to a technician before the talk in a large auditorium holding 1000 people or more.

A very bad thing that is

    Bernhard

    Morale support here, too.

This REALLY s*cks out loud as my hands are tied - neither version of Keynote work reliably on Mavericks.

I'm totally stunned Apple is going this far without making basic fixes.

It's like a punch to the gut.

    Keynote Presentations are missing images.

This is a well known problem. We are hoping this will be sorted during the 6 month update cycle Apple have promised they will do next year.

    Not happy either,

I had the missing pictures with a ? and an x over the area, In kenote 5, and the previous version of MAVERICKS. The  problem appeared when copying the file (keynote document) into a USB pen or similar ...if I compress the file before copynig it into the pen the images were not lost.when I copied and decompressed into the new computer..I am not sure if that will help.

May be compressing in keynote 5.o and then open in 6.0...I will try...

The REAL problem now is that I upgraded to Keynote 6.0.1 and I started my new presentation........just 1 hour before the presentation.......my images had just switched from place to place ramdomly...I eaven had missing images to ...no ? or X missing signals ......

I was lucky to correct the situation, but I am really scared about keep using it, specially if you said that K5.0 with mavericks is not stable......

What should be the procedure to folllow, I cannot wait 6 monts that for sure......

Yes, if now on Feb 6 with 6.1 there is still no information about how to fix this, I'm worried to have to drop iWorks. Using presentation software way too much to risk a failure. Today lost pretty much all images in a talk 1.5h before presentation when I just tried out the presentation, and suddenly X-es and ?-marks. What a disaster!

Just lost all my presentation that I have been doing for the last 2 hours to the same problem.

Sorry apple I've been an avid user of all your product for 10 years but this is the final straw. 6 months is not even close to being good enough, I was trying to avoid using the works pc but to be honest they have just given me a surface pro and I'm wondering why I'm still loyal after dabilitating problems like this!

We're a small team using Keynote.

First, images were randomly swaped within keynote as described above.

Since we have been using Google Drive, keynote tells us that some images aren't there because they have been deleted. Same file in Google Drive on another computer works.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? It seems like Drive refuses to sync some files...

    Thanks!

Any news on the missing images problem? I just had all images disappear from a presentation created in 6.2, stored on dropbox, then opened in 6.2 on another machine. I copied the file off dropbox, reopened and all of the images reappeared (but I still get the images deleted alert). I tried saving in '09 format and most images remained but a few were deleted.

This kind of wonky behavior does not leave me very confident in using this software. I feell like I'll never know whether the images will be there or not. Is there anything to do to make keynote will work?

Just adding to the list.  I have a similar problem.  Many (but not all?) of my keynote lectures have lost their images.  It is related to those that I have copied and pasted in.  In fact, when I copy an image from another keynote file, it will not appear in the pasted location, just the X? .

Apple needs to get this fixed ASAP.  Luckily I have PDF versions of all my lectures, but I do not want to go back and recreate all my lectures in Keynote!

    FIX IT.

Work in advertising and presentations are a big part of what I do. Had already been frustrating others by using Keynote given the universality of Powerpoint. But with this issue I may have to do the unthinkable and switch to powerpoint so I know my stuff will get saved properly.

    SOMEONE HELP PLEASE

Apple, seriously.... If you are genuinly expecting businesses (who need to colaborate together) to use Mac, you need to get on top of problems like this. This is a MAJOR problem, We are in the process of downgrading back to old keynote in a effort to get around this abomonation in file structure you have created here.

No busienss can realistically use mobile me for file storage, which is, if I understand correctly, the route of the problem with the configuration of the keynote files, thus, you leave us all stranded.

Powerpoint, can I do that to myself and my team... really!! FIX the god dame problem, or at the very least do us the honor of a reply, this has not worked for nearly 6 months now... what are you loosers doing in that apple ivory tower!!

It’s been 6 months now, no word from Apple.

We have altered the way we do things inside my company, so KeyNote is now dropping in popularity, our presentations look less great and people are ****** off. I’m seconds away from choosing PowerPoint.

    Apple, please fix KeyNote!

My sun just lost his school presentation.

He had to redo it with Powerpoint,

    And he mist his deadline.

This is a well known problem.

A warning would have been appreciate.
